Utes at Huskies

Congrats Utes.  I was not able to watch the game live, but saw the highlights and read up on it from various husky articles. Sound like the Utes weathered a fast start by UW, and asserted themselves in the second half to earn this win as the superior team. What appears to be the headline is that Huntley was virtually flawless in the second half, and converted several very important 3d downs. If he is really playing as well as his stats would indicate, you guys are really in business with a proven first class defense and RB already on board. I hope you win out and put on a show for the country in the conference championship game.

From the husky perspective, this is a second loss in a row to a top 10 team where UW played well enough to lead and to make the outcome interesting, but was not good enough to win. Both losses to Oregon and Utah featured UW fading in the second half on both offense and defense. Apparently, in the second half yesterday UW had 4 consecutive drives that resulted in -1 yards of offense. Can't win a big game like that. Did Utah make defensive adjustments to shut down the huskies? I'm sure they did, but there are some mental lapses by UW as well (false starts, drops, pick sixes, etc.) that are uncharacteristic of previous Petersen teams. The huskies have some obvious talent, but in the end I come back to the old Parcells quote ... "you are what your record says you are." We are 5-4, 2-4, staring at a resurgent Beav on Friday night. Time to find some pride, and play for a full 4 quarters huskies.

Good game, despite the outcome I was really impressed with the Husky team during a "rebuild" year. They came out smoking, and were dominating Utah early on, especially on the lines. Utah started out trying to insert a new guy on the OL for the first few series, and the UW defensive line abused him. Washington also did great early on against Utah's DL ( IMHO one of the best in the nation ), keeping Eason clean and allowing for him to make some big plays.

From my perspective, the Huskies looked like they were pretty banged up in the run game ( and Utah is pretty difficult to run against anyway ) so Eason was forced to play hero ball and try to force some throws into really tight windows. He succeeded early on, but once Utah was able to generate some pressure on him, it led to some turnovers that turned the game. Good luck the rest of the way, you guys have a great program.
