His career TS% in college was...not good. He averaged 38 shots a game in college for his three years. He was a gunner. It's like the consecutive appearance streak in baseball that Cal Ripken owns. We could probably let someone duplicate those numbers but it would be at the detriment of the team. I don’t know if that’s true. His ncaa career fg% was .438. Many of his shots would be threes today. Klay Thompson’s overall shooting percentage at WSU was .424. I’m kinda blind, am I missing something?
MrBug708 Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 Klay's TS%, for a guard, wasn't terrible, it was .550. His eFG% was .509 for his career. Knowing what Pete's 3's would be might adjust it, but he was a pure gunner. He was a unique player for sure, but the volume was so incredible, it will never be duplicated.

No shot-clock (opponents could hold the ball) He couldn't play varsity his Freshman year. Between those three data points and the fact he was a 5x NBA all-star tells me that "gunner" and "unique player" are unfair slurs. He was incredible.

Mark the calendar! @Orangeand I agree on something! Pistol Pete was incredible. We will never see a player of his caliber again. He was a show all unto himself.

We will (and have) seen players of his caliber, just never ones that will have the freedom to break the NCAA scoring record. But he was incredible.

In terms of pure scoring, Jordan, LeBron, Malone, Kareem, et al., are 10x the player he was. In terms of point guards, Stockton, Magic, Chris Paul, Jason Kidd, ****** Nash, etc. Do you TRY to embarrass yourself?

The conversation is about college basketball performance. And none of those players you mentioned were the caliber of college basketball player that Pistol Pete was. And Lebron didn't go to college. None of them have anywhere close to the collegiate statistics the Maravich had. His career points per game at LSU will probably never be broken, or have anyone come close to what he accomplished. How many 44-point games, in CBB did Jordan have? Or Kareem? Or anyone that you listed have? Maravich "averaged" 44ppg. Averaged. That means he had games where he scored in the upper 60s. Obviously, Pistol Pete was before your time and you're clueless. You need to research Pistol Pete, pull up some over footage of him playing at LSU, and learn a thing of two. And BTW, if Lebron played in the 80's against players like Jordan, Lambier, Tree Rollins, Dominic, Akeem, Barkley, Dr. J, Karl Malone, Darrell Dawkins, Robert Parrish, Kevin McHale, James Worthy, Magic Johnson, Rodman - and the list goes on, he would have gotten beaten up every night. He probably wouldn't have been a starter, in that era.

Lmaooooooo Sometimes I wonder if you’re conducting a scientific experiment to see how people react to an explosive-diarrhea-firehose of awful takes.
MrBug708 Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Pete was so great that LSU went 49-35 during his time there. He scored 69 points in a college game and lost. Lebron, had he played in the 80's, would have been the greatest NBA player of all time, without question. They would have been called Air Lebron's. Had Westbrook played in the 80's, we'd be calling them Air Westbrooks.

Orange Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 On the contrary, Facebook should be required to fund all of America's public schools for the next 10 years to make up for the harm they've done to our country.
