Weed Thread

Prosecutors are prosecutors.  Their culture is conservative, so even in state-legal marijuana jurisdictions, there is internal resistance to cut a break to any convict, ever, for any reason.  Even for something that is such a no-brainer as weed possession.  I dealt with DAs in El Paso County, CO who were basically a bunch of little Jerry Falwells.  Judges were usually from the DAs office, too.  It was horrible.  These people are usually just shit human beings.

And there is some validity to the fact that the paperwork for automatic-expungements by the jurisdiction is too big of an ask for a county budget when you factor in overtime for ADAs, clerks, etc.

I honestly don't get your opposition to this issue of legalizing weed nationwide (yes, I know some of this is you getting my goat, but a good deal of it has to reflect your true political belief, otherwise you wouldn't be so committed).  Is it truly because you hate stoners so much?

What's your opinion on drunks?  Hell, your soda does WAY more harm than weed.

I’m pretty committed to getting under your skin. If I had my way, alcohol and pot would both be illegal. I realize That isn’t practical. I just hate to see people become alcoholics and potheads.  So count me as silently for legalization but Unsympathetic to passionate advocates.

"I'm horrifically ignorant on the topic" is your position, then.

Can't view, not subscribed.  But since it's something you dug up, I can guess it's an absurdly negative view of marijuana that totally discounts the fact that literally every other substance on the planet we legalize has a higher kill rate.

Go ahead and ignore the insanely damaging cost that MJ prohibition has had on societies of color, namely black people.  Generations of fatherless children can trace their misery and failure in life to the Republicans doing their best to spearhead mass-incarceration for profit.   While you're at it, ignore cannabis's curative effects for children with epilepsy, for countless people with anxiety, arthritis, cancer, etc.

Keep hyping the dipshit nancy reagan view.  You're truly a hopelessly deluded old man.

I thought this was a thoughtful article, urging continued study of marijuana's effects on users (short term, long term and inter-generational). The author does not oppose legalization. This seems like a reasonable approach to me.

I doubt many would argue her points, although she's short on evidence, which is probably because of the lack of available marijuana research.

Can someone explain this statement: heavy-smoking teens show evidence of reduced activity in brain circuits critical for flagging newsworthy experiences

Da fuq does that mean?

I took it to mean that heavy smoking teens are numb to lots of important signals about important events, in their own life, and also in the news. They are in a stoner fog that does not allow them to recognize significant events from everyday events.

I can vouch for this personally.  When you're high, events are distorted.

I think you'd have to smoke a SHITLOAD to be that way in your every day sober life, though.

Well, I have no argument with that assessment, but that isn't what that sentence says, at all. Maybe if I get stoned and read it again, it will make sense to me.
