azgreg Posted April 8 Posted April 8 It looks like the deadline to get a Real ID are finally upon us or are they going to extend it again? Quote

I fail to see why we need to go down and show the same information at the DMV for a Real ID that we already provided for our Drivers License or original state ID. Make it make sense. What does it accomplish? 1 1 Quote

What does it accomplish? You’ve had 15+ years to get one. What are you even complaining about? In the last 15 years have you not had to go to the DMV at all to renew a drivers license? 4 Quote

The Real ID marker was on the last renewal. Piece of cake. 1 Quote
tailingpermit Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Florida only makes you update your drivers license every 10 years, probably not a good thing. Quote

I think I remember Arizona being like every 20-25 years. Edit: just looked it up, you dont have to renew again until your 65 years old! (Supposed to update the pic every 12 years, but it's not enforced very well apparently) 1 Quote

It got me out of a speeding ticket one time, I was in a company car and I lied that I still lived in Florida. To this day, I have never gotten a speeding ticket. I always do 10-15 over the limit (on the expressway). Quote

Was averaging 1 ticket every year or 2 throughout high school and college. 1 Quote

My father still has his ‘00 NSX with only 10k miles, he always got pulled over with his 928 and ‘92, ‘97 NSX. Quote

Nah, I got all the tickets in a Dodge Stealth / Mitsubishi 3000GT I drove back then lol. Oh man, those first gen NSXs are the best. 1 Quote

They really are...they look a lot like a Ferrari with their sleek lines. I'd put the first generation NSX on the same list of sexy cars as the Pantera and Lotus Esprit for underappreciated cars. 2 Quote

I keep my extra fire helmet in the backseat so I can drop it in the passenger seat if I ever get pulled over. Works like a charm! Quote

What does it accomplish? Different states had different requirements for a DL....the Real ID program just standardizes the requirements and information on every state's license, so depending on what state you're in, it may not be the same information. I don't think having a federal standard for a DL is a bad idea and like Mug said, you've had like 15 years (20 actually), so what are you bitching about? I don't even see how you couldn't have one at this point. Quote

State's might have the same information about you in the database, but the physical cards had to be updated to be compliant, which is more about what the states were doing rather than what you had to do. Real ID's are made of a polycarbonate now which are harder to replicate, added a PDF style barcode, added lines of information on the magnetic barcode and ghost photos/holograms for security. If your state didn't previously require documents or didn't authenticate them, you would have had to bring in additional documents to meet that state's level of compliance. It wasn't just a matter of getting a new license with a star on it. Quote
