A nothing burger.  Can pay two years right now and the rest in future revenues, donations, etc.

When you took on your 30 year mortgage on your home, did you have all 30 years of funds in the bank?  Does a biz owner have all the funds in the bank to pay all his employees for 5 years?

This is just a sad move by the UNR BOR and Mick Akers.

This tweet is what makes rebel fans great.  Unlv has done less than nothing in football and all of the sudden they are on par with Boise.

Unlv could go undefeated for 15 straight years and would still have an all time losing record.  What a bunch of clowns reb fans are

Don't say I never did anything nice for UNLV:

Nothing gets Boise and SDSU fans tails' up than a chance to weigh in on a 'shit all over UNLV' thread.   Like moths to the light.

It's weird.  I could care less what's going on with any of their programs.

I don't get all of the defense of the UNLV brass on this.  Of course nobody has the cash on hand for a 5 year coaching contract.  Of course it has to be raised as part of the process.  To me the point isn't that UNLV won't be able to afford Mullen, I'm sure they will.  The point is that their stated plan to fund his contract is to hope for donations.  Yeah, they'll raise the money somehow and things will be fine, but when the boss asks about your budget they do tend to get fussy when you don't have some pretty solid income forecasts in place to cover the proposed expenditures.  There's nothing wrong with what UNLV is doing, but the BOR (even if they do hate UNLV) has a right to be pissed if the stated plan is hope and a prayer.

To be air, Boise did play a partial season of baseball prior to COVID shutting everything down.

Did you guys have a baseball facility or were you using a minor league stadium?

Your comparison is flawed.  The bank doesn’t give you a loan if you don’t have enough income to make your payments, or if your debt/income ratio is poor. UNLV is running a significant budget deficit (not debt), made a huge commitment to a coach they can’t afford and are now counting on exit/poaching fees from exiting MWC teams to cover the gap.

They used the local minor league ballpark.  Plans were underway for an on-campus stadium but that got shut down along with the program.

Yep. Not sure why the hit piece..

So, if there's any truth at all in the article, it's as I suspected.  UNLV has this all figured out, just did a really poor job of explaining that to the board.  Most of the local "journalists" that were in love with CSU hit pieces have moved on to cover politics where they belong.  The paper lost a lot of subscriptions when they supported assholes.  Maybe Vegas should do the same.
