tailingpermit Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Why would Russia agree to a ceasefire so that 10k Ukrainian soldiers can escape in Kursk? Pretty large bargaining chip in talks of the one true goal, a peace deal. Quote
SharkTanked Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Russia has the upper hand. Trump thinks his participation in the negotiations changes the calculus. I don't think it does for Russia. Russia wants a neutered Ukraine with no military or security. They want to install a puppet government. They want to make it the next Belarus, and then they will move on to the next target. The "art of the deal" doesn't change that as long as Russia has the upper hand. I don't think Russia cares how much of their economy is destroyed in the process or how many people die. They are too dug in. 1 1 Quote

Another issue, he said, is whether Ukraine could use the 30-day ceasefire to rearm. “We agree with the proposals to halt the fighting, but we proceed from the assumption that the ceasefire should lead to lasting peace and remove the root causes of the crisis,” Putin said. 1 Quote
