Amy Schumer would make a better minority leader.

Where is Harry Reid when you need him?  Schumer needs to go.

You see the hostility I get for being helpful @SharkTanked? I didn’t even point out that Hassan Jeffries walked all but one Democratic House member into a no vote that would raise the salaries of every military member. Or maybe that was the leprechaun.

Somebody needs a hug?

What does that have to do with whether the Dem votes were necessary? O yea! Nothing.

The Dems have a vote and thought they were necessary. Seems like you’re the one living in a fantasy land.

Again, the GOP did not need Dem votes. They wanted them. And they got them because the Dems are weak. Anything else you need me to repeat for you?

Schumer has voiced some legitimate concerns about how a shutdown with the orange shitgibbon and Nazi saluter could spiral out of control and cause far more damage than they already have. The concern, and I think there is some legitimacy to it, is a shutdown would result in them eviscerating and permanently shuttering certain agencies.

They would decide what is and is not essential services. They would have carte Blanche to shut down what they want. No need to fire or RIF anyone. Just shut them down. And given how the GOP Congressional members would love to see certain agencies and departments ended they might not be in a hurry to reopen things.

So it isn't as simple as not wanting "to be blamed" there is a real fear about what this executive branch might do with a shut down and the opportunity to close agencies at will.

Great...but maybe the Ameican people need to feel the "pain."  They voted for the idiot.  Maybe they need to see what an incompetent moron he is.  The problem is that Democrats decided to insulate the voters from their own choices.  They should have given Trump enough rope to hang himself with.  His overreach during a shutdown and the associated consequences are exactly what we needed to be showing.

Democrats should have used this opportunity to keep themselves relevant and to keep the congress tied up and to get on front of DOGE.  Instead they let this pass without a fight and are letting Republicans line them up for another free punch in the nose with billionaire tax cuts.

Who sues. On what grounds. Who has standing to sue.

No

No

And No

Once the damage is done it would be incredibly difficult to undue. Some of you are really taking very narrow, short sighted views.

This isn't about making voter feel pain Akula it's about trying to preserve agencies. You are behaving like a child being punitive and selfish. Short sighted and unreasonable. A significant port of the electorate voted AGAINST this government and they don't deserve to be ,"punished" because your pitching a tantrum.

Sactown lawsuits aren't the path to addressing something which needs to be prevented and certainly wouldn't be effective after the fact.

I don't like the CR and I would love for the Dems to shut it down HOWEVER I can recognize that given the current situation it would play right into their hands and let them accelerate what they are already doing. It's a no win situation and I don't envy them their choices. It's certainly not as simple as some of you wish to believe.

The Congress sues that the President is exercising authority he doesn’t have.  If Congress gives him authority you are done.

Shitdown averted in the "no good choices" category and the Dems are flailing in the aftermath.

I understand his decision I'm not sure I agree with it. I don't have enough information to know which was the better way to go. Neither way was particularly palatable and I'm still leaning towards a shutdown, as I was when I started this thread.

No clear leadership. A ship without a captain and no rudder. This entire debacle has really emphasized how lacking in leadership they are. The de facto leaders are all too old. In my opinion they need end that seniority crap. They need to move to much younger members and I don't mean protege's of the tired old guard either. Jeffries is unimpressive. They should be looking to AOC and Pete B and Katy Porter. Tammy Duckworth.

A shutdown would have been very bad for non-essential Fed workers such as myself.  Musk & Trump would have gone ahead and fired every non-essential Fed employee.  I do not understand why some Dems are pissed off at Schumer for choosing the best option to advance the bill to the final vote.

I just received the VERA/VSIP offer via email for my agency and after evaluating the offer, I'm going to stick around for the upcoming two massive RIF waves.  Those offers are valid until next Wednesday so I'm thinking the first RIF wave would occur the following week which would be on the week of March 31 to April 4th.
