This agency is so critical to so many people and organizations in this country, let alone the world, I think it deserves its own thread.

One of the next agencies scheduled to be gutted by the orange shitgibbon. This will put countless lives at risk as well as businesses. I think the last paragraph sums it up perfectly.

“We have the largest, most sophisticated science enterprise in the world,” Rosenberg said. “And we are going to throw it away because somebody doesn’t like the word climate change."

Really?

Out of that whole thing which raised a number of very critical points, your take is to be the grammar Nazi? How disappointing.

You guys have really got to lighten up.

That wasn't very heavy, snowflake.

Out of all the agencies those shitheads are gutting, this one has the farthest reach and biggest impact to people in this country and around the world. This one SHOULD warrant a response. Anyone who gets on an airplane depends on this agency. Anyone who has a farm depends on this agency. Anyone managing our water systems depends on this agency. Anyone on a boat or ship depends on this agency. Anyone who lives in a flood zone, hurricane, typhoon, storm or fire zone depends on this agency.

Messing with this agency IS A BIG FUCKING DEAL. Let me say that again, THIS AGENCY IS A BIG FUCKING DEAL. Lives depend on it. In both immediate and long term means.

So no, out of all the crap the orange shitgibbon is pulling this one is not something that I will lighten up about and frankly nor should anyone else. Unless you're a brainwashed Maggat who thinks these fucktards can do no wrong.

I have it on good authority that wildfires are caused by the smelt and not climate change. So we can at least breathe easy on that front.

Head of EPA privately urges Trump administration to reconsider finding behind US action against climate change

In a potential landmark action, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency has privately urged the Trump administration to reconsider a scientific finding that has long been the central basis for U.S. action against climate change.

In a report to the White House, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin called for a rewrite of the agency’s finding that greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare. Four people who were briefed on the matter spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the recommendation is not public.

The 2009 finding under the Clean Air Act is the legal underpinning of a host of climate regulations for motor vehicles, power plants and other pollution sources.

A spokesperson for the EPA on Wednesday declined to reveal Zeldin’s recommendation, which was made last week under an executive order from Trump.

The Washington Post first reported that Zeldin had urged the White House to strike down the endangerment finding.

Frequent accurate and detailed weather reports are key to fighting the fires so no, don't get too comfortable.

This is completely unrelated. Just FYI

Maybe that's part of the problem, are people ignorant of the fact that climate change is not a major product/goal of NOAA. Climate change really only is a factor as it has to be accounted for in their various models.

It's a factor but not the end product.

Actually, I think you just rake the forest and mindlessly empty reservoirs. Also, if you say "climate change is a hoax" five times into a mirror then Jewish space lasers appear and rain clouds form. So we're all good!

This is why I thought it was somewhat related. Looking at the statements for the justification in cutting NOAA, it is all climate change related.

Thank you for posting that.  I was wondering if there was confusion given how CC impacts their work but is not their main function.

NOAA is a whole lot more than climate change. It's just they can't perform their core functions without taking that variable into account. It's an important distinction that isn't being communicated and or heard/understood. Once the term climate change is seen it just seems to shut everything down.

NOAA is not about policy or laws or regulations. They are the science that people rely on for numerous critical updates and reports that are not about climate change but are about crop planting, airline flight weather etc. I wish the wrecking ball would stop to listen but I'm not sure they would even care.

I’m torn on climate change.

on one hand… it is a legit concern that we need to address although not make wholesale changes overnight.

on the other hand, I have oil wells pumping that supplement my income every month that I’ve kinda grown fond of.  I know that contradicts my opinions but…

I don’t think there’s any worry about the overnight part. We’ve never done enough despite the problem being obvious (and worsening) and we’re now going to go in the opposite direction. Drill baby, drill!

Taken from another BB

While Musk and DOGE have been unable to prove they have found any fraud or provided taxpayers with any meaningful savings, the San Francisco Chronicle points out that while the National Weather Service’s budget is around $1.4 billion, which averages to around $4 per tax payer, it is estimated to provide Americans with $102.1 billion in benefits.

That's a lot of bang for the buck, according to any metric. You could even call it a model of “efficiency.”

There's no need for NOAA or the EPA when you have an Orange shit gibbon with a sharpie to tell us about the danger.

It's amazing how fearful the GQP is of everything. Somehow NOAA is scary to them.
