Not a lot but he has absolutely flexed our soft power in a way not seen since Teddy. He got 3 easy "wins" in our hemisphere which is a GOOD thing. It signals to China and the rest of the world to make no mistake, this is our hemisphere. He also has momentum in the Middle East, and no I am not giving him whole or even much credit for it, but he does. 2 Quote

He basically used tariffs to make Mexico and Canada dance, and force them to make an announcement on how they would stop drug trafficking. It might all be just PR and virtue signaling --- but he got exactly what he wanted. 1 Quote

Getting Mexico to do what Biden had already done, and getting Canada to agree to a plan they'd already announced? 1 1 Quote

I highly doubt it has a material impact on the Fentanyl crises, but having three countries basically go "uncle" in such short order does send a message. 1 1 Quote

Trump campaign promise to the folks who voted for him (i.e., not 75% of the posters on this message board) was that he was going to force Mexico and Canada to do something about Fentanyl. He provoked a response from both Canada and Mexico, using tariffs to strong arm them. Instead of Mexico and Canada announcing that that they didn't need to do anything because they already had done actions under Biden, both of their leaders made announcements today that they were taking steps to stop Fentanyl after a "very friendly phone call from President Trump". They both gave credit to Trump in their statements (you'll have to ask them why they did this). This now looks like Trump forced them to dance, by using Tariffs. At the very least, he forced them to "recommit" to addressing drug trafficking. Trump base is thrilled----the rednecks / white trash / blue collars all think that we just stuck it to Mexico and Canada (these people want this). It is similar to Trump threatening that "all hell will break loose if Israel and Hamas don't do a peace deal by inauguration" and magically 2 days later a cease fire is announced. . The Michigan Muslims were thrilled. 1 Quote

Yeah, great. The biggest guy at the bar picks on 3 smaller guys just to show he can. And gains nothing. Maybe those 3 guys get together or hold a gruge. Quote

Panama opting out of their MOU to join Chinas' Belt and Road initiative is huge. To deny that Trump has momentum right now geopolitically is just to have your head in the sand. Mexico and Canada making their statements, Colombia backing down, Greenland stating they wish to explore more US military presence and cooperation with the US to extract resources, Panama distancing from China, a cease fire in Gaza. Yeah, that's momentum and its fine to acknowledge it. 3 Quote

Trump has a lot of momentum on the global stage right now with back to back to back to back to back quick and easy wins and a projection of our soft power. Not sure what the point in denying that is. 1 Quote

We already had soft power. We didn't need to prove it like an insecure little short man. We had friends...we controlled Panama, Colombia and Canada withou emmasculating them. We just had to rub their noses in it so they resent us? THAT pushes them towards our enemies. Quote
