Actually, the water in question from those two dams can’t even be bought. It’s not connected to the state water project as are the rivers further north. That’s what makes the statement from the COE so ludicrous. It will be good for the Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge.

The Kern River Intertie connects the Kern River to the California Aqueduct. But that would require the CoE to release from Isabella Dam above Bakersfield not these two dams on the Kaweah and Tule Rivers.

These rivers do not feed Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge. That is in far northern California near the Oregon border.

I'm hearing farmers and water districts are trying to divert the excess water being released into ponding basins to allow for groundwater recharge. That would at least allow some to be pumped back up this spring/summer but at a higher cost than surface water use direct from the dams.

Those researchers absolutely did not discredit my argument. My argument was climate change is real, and humans are accelerating it to a point. The research I provided did mention human acceleration of global warming. I didn't argue that and stated that throughout the thread. My argument was that the cause of the human and economic devastation of the recent fires was a direct impact of urban sprawl. That research points that out clearly. That research also mentioned what I was saying about California having excessive drought periods that date back hundreds and possibly thousands of years that several posters just ignored, including yourself.

Neither were your argument.  Your argument was Newsom and Biden fckd up.  I mean bro lol.  The backpedalling and changing of narratives.....

Sure. It could replace water otherwise supplied to these districts by the state, but only before it goes over the spillway. Too late now...

Nah, you got to think big picture. Like trump does. Spill enough water to bloat those basins and get that water to the SJ river.

@smltwnrckr if this ends up with the MAGA's joining the environmentalists and we start going "You know, we probably have too many dams in the West, which ones can we get rid of"  I'm there for it.  Right?

You know, the farmers who are all Maga today were the ones who originally pushed the idea of using federally impounded water to help the fish in the delta?

I'm literally writing a piece right now for a peer reviewed journal on this.

Nah. Just open the valve. It's that simple.

Just more made up material. It's your MO

And my argument is the waste of billions of taxpayers' money on failed programs while ignoring decades of infrastructure issues. And last time I checked, Newsom is Governor of California.

It's true. I'll dm.you if.tou want whe my draft is done.next week.

They're all crying now. But their parents and grandparents sold the state and the nation the idea to get a dam built. That was the last major dam built in the american west. Because it's turned out to not have lived up to the projections.

If @AztecAlien really wants to talk about faild water policies, he can start there.

I'm assuming that some of the districts who get that water also get state water, so that conceivably it's possible for the feds to sell it to the state.

Water swaps/sales between districts are a normal practice. But given the very dry January many are concerned about what might be available.

Most state and federal dams have been near their historical winter average amount of stored water.

But the current snowpack in the Sierra south of Yosemite is only 48% of the normal for this date.

Users were already praying for a Feb/March miracle of heavy storms. Releasing stored water now is making many uneasy about later this year..

You're right. I was confusing Tulare Lake, fed by the Tule River, with Tule Lake. Old brain... Pixley and Kern Refuges.

I am just curious if it is.physocally possible to move this water being released into the SWP system....or at least move it.on paper if not in pipes.

Really, I can start there, huh? I'm very familiar with the manipulation of water in Western U.S.

most of us would agree with you...urban sprawl has made these events much more expensive

do you have any ideas on how we should combat urban sprawl? more government regulation?

I don't know the exact reason why you left California but maybe it was because it became too crowded...

how do you stop people from moving to or from anywhere?

Urban sprawl due to a lack of supply on the housing front.

Housing costs are crazy, and it's largely a supply issue.  Which leads to the sprawl.  How and why are we running out of safe areas of land?
