It seems like these tariffs are the end, not the means. Well, admittedly, I only know that he said he wants to throw these tariffs out to get Canada and Mexico to increase their border security (whatever that means) and spend more money and resources on stopping drug trafficking to the US. So, I guess we'll see if that's true or not. Trump's a blow hard so I don't know if he actually wants these tariffs, or just uses them to force a negotiation. Maybe he just wants a virtue signal from Canada and Mexico on this drugs issue and pretend they will stop drug trafficking? Also, some tariffs are odd. Makes no sense that the EU places a 10% tariff on US-manufactured cars imported to Europe, but that the US places only a 2.5% tariff on Europe-manufactured cars imported to the US. Should probably be zero. Quote

Some seem to be rooting for Canada because they hate Trump but I write that off as them being quisling losers all along but who cares. None of it is about the merits and drawbacks of tariffs. Yea but they are also against tariffs, which you have disliked forever. And if Trump had not issued tariffs, we wouldn’t be talking about Canada potentially issuing tariffs because they wouldn’t even be considering issuing tariffs. Just seems weird to come looking to argue with people that are, just like you, upset that Trump did a thing that you dislike and have disliked forever. Quote

Don’t think it’ll help Heir Trump. Stock Market could crash on Monday over the new tariff war. This could get bloody very quickly. Quote

Interesting, though, that his social media post that was pasted on this thread never mentioned drugs at all. I’m generally a free-trader, despite some of its drawbacks. And I think a trade war is especially risky with a world economy still trying to overcome inflation. If these tariffs last, and the economy takes a big hit, it will be interesting to see what happens to Trump’s support. We shall see. 1 Quote
FresnoFacts Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Canada by itself can inflict minor damage. Same with Mexico. But a pack of smaller animals can inflict damage on a larger one if they work together. China, Canada, and Mexico may be pushed to work together. And it looks like this is not just about the border or drugs. Trump is saying tonight he is looking at putting tariffs on other countries also. He is now saying tariffs on the EU will "definitely happen" and tariffs on the UK are also possible. "Tariffs on EU goods imported into the US will happen "pretty soon", says President Donald Trump. "They've really taken advantage of [the US]," he says. "They don't take our cars, they don't take our farm products. They take almost nothing, and we take everything from the millions of cars, tremendous amounts of food and farm products." Asked by the BBC if there's a timeline for announcing EU tariffs, Trump says: "I wouldn't say there's a timeline, but it's going to be pretty soon. "The United States has been ripped off by virtually every country in the world. We have deficits with almost every country - not every country - but almost, and we're going to change it. It's been unfair." https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cqjvg82lg4yt?post=asset%3Ab7b82a8a-4582-4b36-b08f-f3a10280b621#post Buckle up. Quote

Hopefully someday that disgusting fat fuck has a catastrophic stroke during one of his ridiculous political rallies where he shits and pisses his pants while flopping on the stage like a fish. Then I hope he gets resuscitated and lives the rest of his miserable life grunting and drooling all over himself so his worshippers might finally realize he is no god. 1 1 2 Quote

You’ll see that 25% increase in fertilizer input cost passed down through your grocery and restaurant bill. Also, this will put another strain on domestic farmers who are already operating on significant cost pressures. I feel like restaurants are teetering right now as well. The cost to go out to eat is already very high, I don't know how much more consumers can take. Denver has lost some great local spots and a lot of restaurants since COVID. 2 Quote

The thread is filled with posts about how Canada can react stupidly cheering them on. I just pointed it out. oh and also 1 Quote
