Read your post again and read crude oil slowly. Then move the goalposts some more. It won’t help your point but at least you’ll know where you went wrong.

I didn’t vote for him. And you loved him for his tariffs position to protect workers in 2015. Your clown makeup is running.

Are we sure the tariffs are not all just a distraction? Say, like while Doge is raiding the treasury? Or while trump is trying to fulfill his dictator fantasy? Or something like that, lol.

I get the point.  If you have a more fine grained pie chart feel free to post it.

The whole thing is a distraction. But the best one is, people on this board thinking Canada has the upper hand in all this.

These countries have elections, too. Same game different teams. They’re just doing what every country would do in this situation.

Which if there were any strategy to this you could argue he’s cracking the whip on the opposition party to become more in line with American interests as the liberals under Trudeau fall ingloriously out of favor.

But I don’t think it’s that deep. There’s not enough maple leaf flags to tolerate the reduced standard of living the average Canadian would have to endure. Trudeau led them off a cliff already. Trump thinks he’s New York businessman from the 1890’s.

Hey there are probably plenty of people that think they do, since red states wont be able to get their Crown Royal or Canadian Club. 😆

They’re fucked with or without retaliatory tariffs. Trump made sure of that. The more interesting thing to me is what our own appetite for a trade war is once the economic pain comes.

If you have a losing hand don’t make it worse for yourself.

Trump is a jerk and a macroeconomic idiot and he likes tariffs. And there’s nothing to be done about any of those things.

So do you think the tariffs are a good or bad thing?

Close to 91% of the potash we use to produce fertilizer in this country is imported from Canada. You’ll see that 25% increase in fertilizer input cost passed down through your grocery and restaurant bill. Also, this will put another strain on domestic farmers who are already operating on significant cost pressures.

They are awful economically. They have their uses politically. But it just makes everyone more poor. I’ve been saying it for a decade and the only thing that changes is whether the person likes the person talking about them be that Trump, Bernie or whoever.

So you have hated tariffs for a long time and when the biggest slate of tariffs in recent history are actually issued (rather than talked about during a campaign) you decided to come argue with people that are…. AGAINST these tariffs because, in your opinion, they are only opposing the tariffs because Trump is issuing them?

When will you be adding David Duke, Stormy Daniels, Putin, Castro, and crypto coin to this thread as well?

Stormy Daniels ran a country?  You’re just full of top drawer info…

He posted that Stormy Daniels ran a country?  Seems more like something you would do.

No, they’re arguing Canada can inflict serious damage in a trade war when they can’t. Some seem to be rooting for Canada because they hate Trump but I write that off as them being quisling losers all along but who cares. None of it is about the merits and drawbacks of tariffs.

This is some interesting chess - hopefully resolved over the next 30-60 days.

Who blinks first?

Not sure why would don't have ZERO tariffs between the US and Canada - that never made sense.

US - Mexico some tariffs make sense (e.g., Chinese making auto factories in Mexico to take advantage of free trade and dump products)

Maybe not. Canadians were left with a Sophie’s choice. Can’t blame them for reacting either way. But that’s not what I care about. I’m more interested in the price we’re going to pay. It’s going be a wild ride.

What does Trump want? Do the Canadians have a way to blink? It seems like these tariffs are the end, not the means.
