The CBC calls it a trade war.

"President Donald Trump launched a trade war against Canada on Saturday by imposing a 25 per cent tariff on virtually all goods from this country — an unprecedented strike against a longstanding ally that has the potential to throw the economy into a tailspin."

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trump-tariffs-canada-february-1-1.7447829

According to the White House, the tariff order includes a retribution clause. If Canada, Mexico, or China retaliate then our tariffs ratchet up in response.

Some will discover this will be more expensive than they thought. I don't see the other countries not responding.

Canada, Mexico, and China should all get together and only put coutervailing tariffs on our oligarchs.  They should do their best to ruin Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg and the rest.

No more batteries for Musk nor cheap goods for Amazon.  Facebook can get the tiktok treatment in these countries.

Any billionaire who attended Trumps inauguration should be have targeted sanctions. Their competitors, no sanctions.

Molsons!!!  yeah, Molsons!

We need to force Canada to quit letting those illegal Molsons over the border.

Laughing at Canada’s response.  They are going to force Red States to take the bulk of the pain.  Guessing Potatoes and corn will be announced soon.

A Canadian friend of mine said he hoped they targeted Tesla.

British Columbia's Premier announced he ordered BC Liquor Stores to “immediately stop buying American liquor from red states,” along with other moves.

The Canadians are definitely going to target red states.

Just fucking great… was planning on possibly building a 45’x30’ shop this summer.  I’m guessing lumber prices will be through the roof.  Thanks a lot you fucking orange shitgibbon!

Trump says don't worry about lumber.

Bottom line, we will all be paying a lot more for any product.  But economically as a country we will make them blink.  Make no mistake, this move by Orange Jesus is a fucking horrible one.

So Canada is only going to buy Whiskey from blue states?

Republicans are in complete control of the federal government. If they want to exert pressure, it’s only logical to do it in a way that will affect GOP dominated areas.

Starting a trade war with our closest allies while further destroying America's ability to project soft power for literally no reason at all. Cool.

Yep. And none of that Ohio or Kentucky or Texas wine. That stuff is not fit for drinking anyway.

This is comically stupid.

Trump: We’re gonna throw a stick into the spokes of our economy

South Park Canadian trash can guy: Buddy, you don’t a need to do that. Not only will it be bad for you, but it will completely kneecap our economy. We have always been friends and allies.

Trump: I’m not your buddy, guy.

Canada: We’re not your guy, pal. We’ll show you. If you knee cap our much smaller economy we’ll cut our own dick off by raising taxes on imports for our own people.

So, Canada will continue to purchase whiskey from the United States, which is subject to federal regulation and has the potential to donate a portion of its profits to red states? 🤔

That’s not how commerce works.

Not all that serious. But Canada is still going to be buying whiskey from the U.S.

What I really hope that happens regarding whiskey with all this, is the price of whiskey on the secondary market comes down so I can buy my dad a decent bottle of bourbon.
