Bigd Posted January 29 Posted January 29 We've been a lot more disappointing than Boise 😑. This team just doesn't have it. And now our NET has fallen (and will continue to) so this won't be a Quad 2 win for Boise. Quote

It’s wild to think where they were after the first month of the season, especially now that Vandy is apparently a really good team. What a free fall. Quote
Swoll Cracker Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I didn’t expect the falloff by Nevada after such a solid start in the non-conference. They were very much an at-large candidate and virtually everyone had them in their top 3 in the MWC. They’re big and they’re experienced but they have not handled the transition to the intensity of the conference schedule where the preparation of opponents is 10x the non-con. I think a lot of us are waiting for them to begin a turnaround but it seems like the season is degrading much like it did a few years ago. I think Boise is about to start heading north in the conference standings. The disappearance of Omar Stanley has plagued them but Im guessing that they fixed a lot of things during their bye week and will start to look better and better. They have a lot of solid players to provide the proper support to Degenhart. If Nevada shows up I think it’ll be a good game. If the Pack stays on their recent trend, I think the Broncos smoke them. Although it looks very similar to a few years ago I think this is a different situation. The 20-21 team had great talent with Sherfield, Cambridge, Baker, Washington, and Blackshear; along with 2 of the same role players, Foster and Coleman, who are still role players. That team obviously had some very major chemistry issues and is easily the most disappointing Nevada team I've watched. I don't really think chemistry is the issue this year but just an overall lack of talent and athleticism. In the last two home games our front court has been completely manhandled, first by Vaihola from San Jose and last Saturday by SDSU's Gwarth; who's turning into a beast and probably won't be around for long, maybe another year. The first month of the season was fun when it seemed like everything was going in, now they struggle to get open looks. 2 Quote

Boise State has two huge problems. Lack of athleticism to play good defense and poor coaching on offense. Plus the regression of Omar Stanley for unknown reason(s). We’ve lost three games on three point buzzer beaters. Win those and we wouldn’t be complaining. And as you say the schedule becomes relatively more favorable from this point forward. We get Nevada, Fresno, SJSU, USU, CSU, and New Mexico at home and travel to Air Force, Fresno, UNLV, Nevada, and SDSU. The good news as the schedule winds down is we have a lot more depth than we’ve had in the past so fatigue shouldn’t be as big an issue as it has been in prior years. Quote

The next year we essentially traded Sherfield, Washington, and Cambride (all became starters in the Big 12) for Lucas and went from 13 wins to 22 wins and making the tournament. On paper that 13 win team was one of the most talented we've had. Just couldn't play together. 2 Quote

I pointed out on our Mountain west weekend stream that Nevada plays at the slowest tempo in the MWC. 352nd in the country. Slower than Air Force! While Alford’s teams have been methodical half court style teams, they’ve never been that slow. I’m not sure what’s caused it but some of it points to Kobe Sanders who came from Cal Poly, a team whose average tempo rank over the past three seasons was 300+. Quote

Yeah and in recent interviews, Alford doesn't seem thrilled with the slow pace either. 1 Quote

Sanders is an interesting one to me. When he gets the ball,it sticks and all ball movement stops. He definitely has talent and can score. I think he gets his season high tonight. Quote

But Rolison's minutes have been continuously decreasing. Alford said there will be a lot of changes, so it will be interesting to see what he comes up with. Quote
