BSUTOP25 Posted January 26 Posted January 26 @UNLV2001 — Is the vision of building an on campus stadium to the northwest of the Thomas & Mack officially dead? Quote

Believe so -- The current UNLV campus is about built out The main campus covers about 320 acres, and UNLV has added various parcels surrounding that core over the years. https://www.unlv.edu/news/article/looking-toward-future-big-potential-proposed-north-campus UNLV does have 2,085 acres in the north valley where UNLV is starting to look at developing a second campus - this land is six times the size of the current UNLV campus - Not sure if any stadium is or will be part of that development, but even if it might be it's decades away probably The proposed UNLV north campus covers a vast 2,085 acres — six times the size of UNLV’s Maryland Parkway campus. It’s bordered by Pecos Road on the west, Lamb Boulevard on the east, and the 215 Beltway to the south with the Sheep Mountains rising up beyond its northern border. The land is owned by the federal government but is due to be transferred to the UNLV in the next few years for use as a future UNLV campus. “As we think of the long-term growth and diversity of our community and our university, we have three goals,” says UNLV President Keith Whitfield. “One of our goals is to reach 40,000 students, another is to partner with the community, and another is to stimulate economic development in the region. We see this north campus as a powerful way to accomplish those goals.” 1 Quote
UNLV2001 Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 UNLV due to the small original campus has been expanding to various areas in the LV area -- The Medical School is near a medical district not far from downtown Las Vegas This new building is right near two existing hospitals, County Coroner's office & various medical offices Quote

It's weird, it's almost like if you pay money to put a good product on the floor/ field, people will show interest and go to games, and you will make back that money and then some. If you spend as little as possible, there is going to be no interest and you will lose money in the long run. This isn't even business 101, it's elementary school level business sense. If I was a race car driver and entered the races with a 89 Ford Taurus with 300k miles, then became confused when I lost all the races and didn't earn any $, people would rightfully call me a dumba$$ just like they do Livenbad, TKM, and DRF. Quickdraw Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Allegiant has been great for the football team and fans. I don’t care if we ever move. Just keep increasing attendance with winning football and everything else will take care of itself. 4 Quote
Smithy Posted January 27 Posted January 27 It's the cost of doing business, If you factor in daily maintenance, grounds keepers, stadium cleanup, utilities, Taxes and other expendibles that other schools pays all year, its a bargain. Especially since the Raiders and the NFL put up the majority if not all of the facility. The next time, when playing in your away games, consider 99% of the other teams doesn't have a NFL team, as a partner to put in the money. If the school schedule decent body bag game in the preseason, a big chunk of that money will pay for that cost. Example...Fresno got paid 1.8Mil from Michigan last year, and got on NBC national TV for that game alone. 1 Quote

8-Bit UNLV Fan Posted January 27 Posted January 27 When the Raiders move to the next city for a new Stadium in 15 years, Allegiant Stadium (which by then the stadium will be on the third naming rights company) will be the sole use of UNLV. 3 Quote

Considering that the Raiders stayed in the shithole in Oakland for 50+ years I wouldn’t plan on them going anywhere for our lifetimes. Quote
ph90702 Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Why not just move to the north campus and sell the Maryland Parkway one? Quote

UNLV2001 Posted January 27 Author Posted January 27 Pretty sure UNLV FB is tied to Allegiant Stadium for the long haul -- It's there with capacity should the gods smile on UNLV FB Plus if (BIG IF) UNLV FB can sustain some success in the coming years there's the possibility to bring in opponents that no MWC or NPAC (maybe OSU ) can bring in Quote

The UNR game this past year was the first one that had the 300 level decks open, and there were a decent amount of people in them. I think announced attendance was like 41k. I think with the excitement surrounding Mullen that will get yet another boost this year as long as they keep playing well. Just a few years ago pre Odom and pre Alegient 40k would have been unthinkable for UNLV football. Alegient and the practice facility have definitely helped grow the program, that can't be denied. 1 Quote

The only time I had UNLV FB season tickets was 1996 to 2009 - From when UNLV entered the WAC & had better opponents and then I didn't renew when the 2008/09 banking meltdown happened -- wasn't "scholarship / donor " tickets -- we sat on the east side right at the tunnel level about the south 30 yard line -- was easy access to the concourse ! That was my 36 to 49 age -- after than the tailgating group sort of faded Now in mid 60's I don't go to many games, been to one at Allegiant & that was mainly to check out the stadium for the cost of a UNLV ticket vs NFL ticket price .........and now with pretty much every game on TV or MWC App, the beer is cheaper and toilets closer at the house. not driving to or taking Uber & paying to park -- yes, i'm a geezer !! 2 1 Quote

That pretty much covers the overhead for much of the CFB season. Of course, there are events in Canvas on average of about 5 days per week year round. Those generate revenue that we don't share with an NFL team. I'm not pretending that there aren't game day costs, that's just a given. We still turn a profit on every home game, even the snow games with light attendance when we're 3-8. Now, SDSU is who has it going on. CSU modeled a lot of what they designed Canvas to do after Jerry World but on a down sized basis. SDSU visited CSU and modeled much of what they do based on what Canvas was designed to do, but saw an opportunity to take it to another level. They're just getting started. Snapdragon has gotten off to a rough start, but it will end up being a model for revenue generation in a CFB stadium before it's all said and done. Of course, they're going to have to rethink their field. Quote

I hear ya I am starting to get like that too (just turned 46). I personally think Alegient is an awesome stadium but hate the hassle of getting in and out of the place with the abominable parking situation. It takes me a half hour to get there and then 40-50 minutes to wait in traffic, park, walk over, and maneuver my way in. That's like 3 hours of my day just getting into and out of the place. Recently went to a soccer game there and going to the Aussie rugby league game there in March (if you've never seen NRL you should check it out, it's awesome!!) But I'd go there a lot more if it was easier to get in/out or if I was younger, lol I think I've only been to 6 Rebel basketball games this year, I'm officially an old timer! 1 Quote
