So not hybrib jucos like Northridge, CSULA, San Berdoo or East Bay and even Fullerton. Guess you need to change the Cal State’s Mission then… 1 Quote

Is surprises me CSUN isn’t in that R2 group Quote

As I suspected: "An hour north of San Francisco, Sonoma State University celebrates its location on the edge of the Russian River Valley by naming its dorms for wine varietals and regions from Beaujolais to Zinfandel. But wildfires have destroyed thousands of homes in this region of the state since 2017, a shock from which its population and already expensive housing market are still recovering." Sonoma State and CSU Channel Islands are similar in that each is relatively small with a nice campus located in a nice area but those campuses are not convenient to get to. Being in just a middle class neighborhood, SDSU has focused on having its main campus have a village-like atmosphere which has always been the focus of UC campuses despite the much more affluent areas which surround most such campuses. For those who might not be aware, the Maritime Academy is rather bizarre. Particularly odd is merging it with Cal Poly SLO that is not only 250 miles away but which focuses on agriculture and architecture, not seamanship, a subject that was once taught at SJSU closer to Vallejo. It’s a shame the subdivisions south of SDSU boomed (post-WWII) a decade or two before the university’s enrollment exploded. Hopefully the Mission Valley Campus can help relieve some of that pressure for land. Quote

Is surprises me CSUN isn’t in that R2 group The main thing keeping most of the bigger CSU's that didn't already have the R2 classification was the number of doctoral degrees awarded. I imagine that's the case with CSUN. I know that SJSU and Sac State will get R2 status in the next update (which is this year). 1 Quote

I wish I went there right out of HS opposed to SDSU. I got the impression there was a HUGE boom in Cal State campus additions 1990s-2010s. I guess this is the correction. Apparently CSU-San Marcos is thriving. CSUSM was a satellite campus for San Diego State when I was an SDSU student. IIRC, it was called SDSU North Campus. After about a decade during which north SD county grew by leaps and bounds, it became a separate university. I don't know about academics but it's a lot nicer campus than boring Cal State Fullerton about an hour farther north (traffic notwithstanding). Quote
