VincentVegaBond2 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 As mediocre as the Rebels have been most of the year, they at least haven't yet lost any head scratching games to terrible teams like they did several times last year. Hope they keep that up tomorrow vs. A weak Wyoming team because they will be tough to beat up in Laramie like they always are. 1 1 Quote
Wyo1 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Cowboys just aren’t very good at all, this past game against the sheep was their worst game I’ve seen them play this year. Shouldn’t be much of a game tomorrow as we never play well against the rebels in Vegas. 1 1 Quote

Go Pokes!! 1 1 Quote

Droga Posted January 21 Posted January 21 I expect UNLV to win by 7-10. But nothing would surprise me with this game. I could see UNLV win by 20 or lose by double digits. Close until the end when UNLV pull out by making ft's at the end if the game Quote
UNLV2001 Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 https://lasvegassun.com/news/2025/jan/21/game-day-resurgent-unlv-hosts-wyoming/ Game day: Resurgent UNLV basketball hosts Wyoming Standings watch Don’t look now — seriously, don’t look now, as it’s way too early to get caught up in conference standings — but UNLV’s surprising mini streak has pushed them into fourth place at 5-2 (11-7 overall). A win over Wyoming would temporarily move the Scarlet and Gray into third. It’s not time to start counting down to a magic number, but it does demonstrate how quickly things can change when you’re playing good basketball. Two big wins was enough to resurrect a lost season and place UNLV squarely in the mix. Thomas is the closer D.J. Thomas has been off for the past couple games, shooting 4-of-13 against Utah State and 4-of-13 against San Diego State. But UNLV won both, and Thomas was a big part of the victories as he hit clutch shots in the final minute of each contest. A short memory is a requirement to be a closer, and it looks like Thomas has one. Senior forward Jalen Hill praised Thomas for always rising to the occasion, even on nights when it would be easy to avoid taking the big shots. “He has the guts to go out there and make those shots,” Hill said. Tuesday’s game shouldn’t come down to the final possession — Wyoming is rated No. 193 in KenPom and UNLV enters as a sizable favorite — but if it does, look for Thomas to handle it. “I’ve had a couple off nights where I hit big shots in the end,” Thomas said. Bench bolsters The reserves continue to power UNLV, serving as one of Kevin Kruger’s most potent weapons on a nightly basis. Against San Diego State, sophomore guard Brooklyn Hicks scored 13 points in 25 minutes off the bench, making him the team’s second-leading scorer behind Thomas’ 19. Senior Jailen Bedford totaled eight points in 24 minutes and freshman Pape N’Diaye chipped in four points and seven rebounds in 12 minutes. Hicks registered a plus/minus of +12, the best mark on the team, while Bedford was right behind him at +10. N’Diaye was also in positive territory at +5. Kruger said the bench is playing with good rhythm and flow, making his substitution decisions a win-win proposition. “We’re very fortunate with this group that we have what we feel like is eight starters,” Kruger said. “We’ve got that kind of faith and trust in the guys.” Quote

They either play up to or down to the level of their competition 1 Quote

Soupslam Posted January 22 Posted January 22 A whole lot of good will would be wasted by a loss to Wyoming. Can’t see it happening though. 1 Quote
