Happy Valentine's Day from #47. Oh, and buy lots of coffee.

Is that you AOC? And you do realize other countries besides Columbia grow coffee, right? Brazil is the largest coffee producer in the world. Vietnam is 2nd.

Biden had 124 deportation flights to Columbia last year and he accomplished it without starting a trade war or showing his ass.

Up to this point, the usual suspects on this board would have everyone believe that there were no deportations going on prior to Trump, but now that Colombia tried to play tough, the usual suspects here are pounding their chests about the number of flights Biden sent there deporting people. And by the way, Colombia has now agreed to all terms and will send planes to Honduras to pick them up. This board is nuts.

Well, that didn't take long.

Hey @RSF @Cowboy Up  @Sactowndog @Spaztecs, and the rest of the loons, is my source not good enough?

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/colombia-deportation-flights-trump-retaliation/

"But late Sunday night, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement, "The Government of Colombia has agreed to all of President Trump's terms, including the unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from Colombia returned from the United States, including on U.S. military aircraft, without limitation or delay. Based on this agreement, the fully drafted IEEPA tariffs and sanctions will be held in reserve, and not signed, unless Colombia fails to honor this agreement."

A cup of Columbian coffee sounds good.

It's a good thing we didn't have to rely on other countries to get coffee, because Juan Valdez was nervous for about 15 minutes. Lol.

Wonder what he’s going to do with all that coffee now?  🫤

That wasn't the point on my post. If they just followed current procedure there wouldn't have been any issues. Instead they pull this big publicity stunt with cuffs and a big ass military plane and in the process he shows the world, again, what a giant ass he is along with jeopardizing trade relations with an ally. He keeps this shit up we won't have any allies left then what? The isolationists get their wish and we're on our own. Worst case scenario then is the rest of the world decides not to base everything off the US dollar and we're screwed for who knows how long.

I'm all for following procedures, though a report by CNN says "Documents reviewed by CNN show Colombia had previously approved the flights, though Colombian President Gustavo Petro disputed he had authorized them – and US officials claim the authorization was revoked once the planes were en route.", so I'm not sure it's clear which end the publicity stunt was on....probably on both sides. If we're going to be sticklers on following procedure, does that include expecting people who come here to follow procedures to come here legally and expectations that we had that previous administrations should have followed established procedures and not turned a blind eye that it was happening just to stick it to Trump?

not turned a blind eye

How is deporting a million people a year "turning a blind eye"?"

It's the 1930's all over again.

The more we isolated, the deeper the depression got. Took us getting involved in a world war to end it.

Perhaps "turning a blind eye" is too strong, but the Biden administration (and Harris in particular) certainly wasn't aggressive, especially early on. While deporting a million people may not be "turning a blind eye", stating publicly "we immediately surge the border...all those people seeking asylum" set the tone and the number of people crossing saw a huge spike. A million deportations was merely an undoing of their own blunder.

Talk about hyperbole. The Great Depression caused the United States to retreat further into its post-World War I isolationism, not the other way around.

I wonder what was going on in Central and South America where they were one of the worst in suffering Covid causing people to want to immigrate to a country that handled Covid much better? Oh wait....I answered my own country. We must remember that teh overwhelming driver in immigration isn't policy but rather condition in countries that people are immigrating from. If you were in a country that was devastated ny Covid (major inflation, massive job loss, etc) and saw that a country to teh North was in far better shape, would you consider immigrating there?

Remember when we were hit with that flood of unaccompanied children? I can't remember if it was at the end of Obama's term or the begginning of Trump's. I can't imagine what was going through a woman's mind when she made the decision to give some guy all he money and sent her kid 1,000 miles North knowing full well she will probably never see them again.

You're going here again?

So let's have millions of unvaccinated people migrate, during a pandemic, into the U.S. illegally that came through Mexico while millions of people are losing their jobs, dealing with high inflation, and there's no place to house them because of housing shortages across the country. How about the national security risks on top of it?

When the job recovery began rather quickly, I'll acknowledge that, don't you think it should have been a priority to give the jobs back to the Americans that lost them in the first place?

Biden invited 12 million, and they came during a pandemic. Brilliant.
