Sadly KK is just not the guy.

He often loses to teams with inferior talent. To me that is on the coach.

Was rooting for him tho. Glad he got this year to prove himself. But he just isn't the guy.

True. Could go 1-3, 2-2 or 3-1 in the next four.

No clue what team shows up night to night.

All four of KKs teams have been that way.

I think that's one of the things that has killed his teams postseason chances each year.

I'm sure the Krugers will still bitch after he's fired even though he's been given more opportunities to succeed than any 1st time HC in UNLV's history.

Nepo'ed into a program with great resources, history, and competitive basketball conference without doing a thing to earn it except being Lon's son.

UNLV learned it's lesson with Odom and now Mullen. Either step up and pay for a winner or waste everyone's time.

March 12 should be the day we are all waiting for, when UNLV bows out in the 1st game of the MW tourney. At this point I don't see any way Harper keeps Junior barring a miraculous run to win the MW Championship and get to the Big Dance. Even then I wouldn't be surprised if he is shown the door based on how disappointing this season has been.

Like quickdraw has mentioned $ has to be a consideration. If Harper decides to keep Junior or if he cans him and hires another unqualified, weak coach, we will all know without a doubt where the program stands.

Personally, I don't think it's that hard to raise money in Las Vegas. There are some wealthy alums and all of the businesses in Las Vegas.

The coach getting hired could also come with donations unique to their hire.

If Ronald McDonald could drum up 2mil for totznburger and a heli... Harper can definitely market up enough to make the new coach a nice penny.

Also, last year stadium authority approved a payment of nearly $2.4 million to UNLV for the loss of net income for the closing of Sam Boyd Stadium...

maybe some of that can got to a coach? I have zero doubt there's money to pay a coach.

A coach who wins increases revenue and writes his own ticket.

The Rebel-net guy (Joe?) talking sh*t on twitter to Rishwain’s family, about…Rishwain. Such class. Said he had cement shoes, and couldn't play defense..stopped just short of blaming the loss yesterday on him. And he’s justifying it since they get paid and they’re over 18 and they are big boys now and deserve it. Also that since there’s no loyalty from players now that they can be nasty to them.

I can’t even imagine doing that to any player’s family.

ok, rant over.

Tough times for diehard Rebel fans we're aging out. That is a problem that AD has to understand. Most of us that were at UNLV in the heydays are facing 60 and over. A lot of goodwill and dollars on the sideline not on Gucci Row. 2007 was last of the glory days. Our March Madness drought is soul crushing. If you make the coaching change you better have money, coach, and recruits ready or it will be more of the same.

This falls into this category.

Fun Vegas factoid about "Joe at Rebel-Net" - Joe is the nephew of former mobster Tony "The Ant" Spilotro  - Same last name

True - Rebels were really good from 1976 to 1981 (except for a few years after the 1977 FF when Rebels were on probation) which was ages 16 to 31 for me

Rebels won the national title about a week after I turned 30 in 1990

So most of those "boosters" from that era have departed this world and the people that really saw the glory days are mostly 55-65 -- If you were 5 in 1990 that puts you at 40 now which is about the minimum to remember UNLV winning the title

If you are under 35 you've really never seen UNLV BB do anything other than the one S16

He's not a bad guy, or at least didn't used to be.  I used to hang out with him a lot way back in the day (mid 90-s to early 2000's) and we went on a lot of basketball road trips back when I was an undergrad student and way more hard-core fan than I am now... (UNR where we almost got beat up by the football team after the game, SDSU where we saw and chatted with a possibly coked out Bayno on his way to the clubs after the game, LMU, New Mexico, etc).

We also made several road trips to St. George to watch UNLV recruit Marcus Banks play at what was then Dixie State Jr College (now Utah Tech of the WAC). I was at the table at a Denny's in St. George with Marcus and Spilotro when he signed his LOI to UNLV.  Last time I saw Spilotro in person was at Lon Krugers last game, the NCAA blowout loss in Tulsa. He was not remotely pleased and was among those who wanted Lon out.... big mistake there.

He famously went something like over 30 years without missing a single home UNLV basketball game and prided himself on fierce loyalty. Unfortunately him and the other hard core Rebel Netters got tucked into the Dave Rice Hive Mind cult, he helped foster it. I know we just recently had a thread on that topic but that's when I bolted from there.  I know he and his minions consider their continued worshipping of the guy who set this current state of UNLV affairs in motion as loyalty, but sheesh.

Reciting UNLV hoops stories from the good Ole days makes me wish Earnie Baer was still around!!!

I was born in 87. My very first memories (literally the oldest images my brain can conjure) are of the 90-91 championship squad while sitting in a full Mack with dad in the upper deck.

Needless to say I've been a lifer since.

I knew him casually from my Rebel-Net days of the 90's & met up with him & some others at local watering holes now & then -- He was single back then, guess he got married & has a kid (or two ?)

Never had any real problems with him but as Rebel-Net devolved into the Rice same think cult he sort of got testy towards me -- eventually I left Rebel-Net for the MWC Board

Forget who his sidekick on the board was, some guy who moved to Vegas because of the 1990 team and he sort of became 2nd owner / leader of Rebel-Net

Don't miss RN one bit and kind of enjoy the conference wide board we have here & had at the MWC Board

Think you were the guy with the weed graphic back then ?!?!

Yeah, you'd be 4 something & forming first long term memories  -- I go back to my HS years is Reno/Sparks when UNLV was in the 1977 Final Four and it was big news statewide .......plus the style of play UNLV played then was like nothing else -- averaging 107 ppg before the 3pt line was around

UNR had some good teams back then when both UNR & UNLV were in the WCAC (now the WCC) - I used to go to UNR & play pickups with Edgar Jones, Johnny High, Mike Stallings & Mike "Fly" Gray along with Carson High player Mike Longero, who;s Carson 1975 team was the last team from Northern Nevada to win a large school state title until the mid 2000's when Luke Babbit was at Galena HS

Jones & High both played in the NBA
