I mean…those all seem like pretty reasonable positions

Oh that was a joke. He was mad about how Facebook is moderated not to censor now and something about the Statue of Liberty swaying in the wind. He didn’t say any of that other stuff.

Why do you feel the need to lie? He literally said those things.

We must reform the tax code. Not the need to get dark money, that's that hidden funding behind too many campaign contributions. We need to get it out of our politics. We need to enact an 18-year time limit, term limit, time and term for the strongest ethics -- and the strongest ethics reforms for our Supreme Court.

We need to ban members of congress from trading stock while they are in the congress. We need to amend the Constitution to make clear that no president -- no president is immune from crimes that he or she commits while in office. The president's power is not limited. It's not absolute, and it shouldn't be. And in a democracy, there's another danger, the concentration of power and wealth.

I actually feel for the man.  Cognitive decline is no fun.  I wish him the best and hope he gets plenty of time to spend with family after his exit.

Same.  Very hard when you still know it’s happening.

No he did ask for those things near the end.

He also wants more regulation on social media companies to expand government controls to define what is the truth and what is mis- and dis-information. Because of course the government would never deceive you, would it?

He compared it unironically to Eisenhower's warning about the military industrial complex, which neither he nor any of his predecessors since Eisenhower have done anything to curtail.

Good riddance and new boss same as the old. You want everyone to have a fair chance? Stop blocking third parties from debates. Implement ranked-choice voting. End protectionist regulations that effectively prohibit new competitors from entering the market.

Absolutely. As Biden also said, we're becoming a land of oligarchs. But that's okay. Just look at what a great country Russia is.

The government absolutely has a role to play in addressing these issues, including regulating social media to prevent the spread of harmful misinformation and disinformation. Allowing unchecked lies and conspiracies to flourish only undermines democracy and public trust. While free speech is important, it’s not an excuse to spread falsehoods that cause real harm—some regulation is necessary to maintain a healthy, informed society.

As for ranked-choice voting and third parties, those are reforms I can get behind, but they need to be implemented in a way that strengthens the system, not weakens it. Government oversight is crucial to ensure these reforms are fair and truly benefit the people, rather than just creating more chaos. The system isn’t perfect, but improving it requires trusting institutions to act in the public’s best interest.

The problem is the government got involved and stifled speech that may not have been false. It is very possible that masks and keeping your kids at home did not stop the spread of COVID. It is also very possible that the pandemic started when it escaped a lab in China. That is some of the things that the government stifled.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

This has got to be a sock puppet.

Who determines what is harmful? The government? Who is the arbiter of what is the truth? The government?

Color me skeptical. The government did nefarious things like trying to spread lies to ruin Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., among others. The government is not to be trusted with this kind of authority.

The First Amendment is foundational, but it was written in a different time and context. While the principles remain important, the government does have a role in ensuring these rights are not abused in ways that harm society. For example, limiting harmful misinformation or speech that incites violence is a necessary step to protect the greater good. Freedom of speech is critical, but it doesn’t mean freedom from accountability. A responsible government can and should step in to maintain that balance while addressing the social justice issues we face today.

I’m not a sock puppet; I’m just someone who believes the government has an important role in maintaining social order and addressing harmful issues like misinformation. Your skepticism is valid—there’s no denying the government has abused its power in the past, like what happened to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. But that’s why any authority granted to regulate speech or misinformation must include strong safeguards, oversight, and transparency.

The goal isn’t to silence dissent or give the government unchecked power; it’s to create a balance where public safety and informed discourse are prioritized while ensuring accountability. History has taught us the risks of overreach, but it’s also shown us the need for structure to prevent harm and chaos.
