The convert reaction should just mean love for one another, similar to the ❤️ on Facebook.

I guess you will be clicking the convert emoji on all my posts now.😀

Mike, I wish nothing but the best for you no matter what that ends up being.

You have been a constant character in this place and it will lose quite a bit of its color without you.

I consider you a friend. Godspeed and I will pray for you.

Sorry to hear this Mike.  This post makes the reality of the people behind these keyboards and screen names come crashing in.  I hope that you are able manage your illness the best you can and I pray that your family will be comforted as best they can when you pass.

Here's some goofy pics on my FB if you want a good laugh. This pic is a HS reunion where I'm trying to impress an old gf. Clearly, me emphasizing my big hands isn't working because she knows nothing has changed... you know where.

Aucune description de photo disponible.

Me with the dorky late 70's glasses on a Sierra backpacking trip (3rd from left).

Aucune description de photo disponible.

My first day of skiing in 1972. It was the only time I ever went cross country skiing. I was such a dork.... already thought I was a racer.

Aucune description de photo disponible.

Here's me and my sis at Mammoth around 1978. I look like such a dork!  She was always hanging around me so she could tattle on me for skiing too fast, especially when I'd get my left ticket taken away by the ski patrol. She's a great sister though.

Aucune description de photo disponible.

Mother's Day 1968 on base (China Lake Naval Weapons Center) next to Ridgecrest, CA about 60 miles north of Lancaster above LA in the high desert. Notice the burnt toast with jelly on it on my mom's plate. I thought it was great! LOL.

Aucune description de photo disponible.

What a tub of lard I was! My mom and dad liked lard, I guess. My mom is still alive at 87.

Aucune description de photo disponible.

Acting like we were too cool at Lake Isabela. This is mid-80's and drinking a beer on camera meant you were a stud. So silly looking back at it now.

We missed the Great Depression and WWII, but we saw a lot of changes in our time. I spent a few hours at Turf Paradise the day before the Fiesta Bowl. Remembering how my WWII parents loved to go there in the early/mid-1960s.  It was so different and lively then.  Time marches on and ours here always changes then ends.  Thanks for posting the pics.  Very nice.

This is when Eddie Vedder had already gone up to Seattle and tried out for Mookie/Pearl Jam, and he came back to San Diego to get his stuff. We played a FB game in the street and jumped in the freezing pool as this is January. My dad took this pics of us roommates striking silly poses. Mine was awful, but what can you do.

Two worst pics I can remember. DMV pics always suck.

Here's a pic of my parents dating at the University of Idaho in 1958. My mom was in Alpha Phi, and this is some theme party they were attending, some Bohemian Island theme. He looks similar to Gilligan. LOL. Before going to college, he served in Korea as a Seabee where he started off as a guard in Guam, then moved on to put down landing bridges after the initial troops got the beachhead's like at Inchon. Never saw direct combat, but got shot at. Took the GI Bill and became a missile designer for the government, and worked on the Tomahawk and other big missile projects. All this froma HS drop out from Ely, NV. His dad was a mean acoholic mechanic, but my dad took after his mom.... she was very sweet and nice. He was an incredible dad.

This is a pic of my Uncle Jim, my mom's brother, serving in the Army in the Korean War. He was a funny dude, and I always tried to live up to his sense of humor. There's no way I did, but I tried.

Mike, thanks for not having a glamor shot!!😎

seriously, thanks for sharing those.  I don’t know if you were around when Coastie tapped out….weird someone I’ve never met struck me with the regret I never knew them in the “real world.”  You are the second.  I don’t “know” you but humanizing the persona of Convert makes this sting more.  And for the record, that isn’t a negative.  Life, as glorious as it is, hurts.  That’s the trade off.  If it didn’t matter, no one would care.

Not sure where this was supposed to go but felt I had to throw it out there.

Thanks, CU. I've been around since about 2007, so I remember the sting when Coastie died. I felt so very sad when his son came on and announced it. You're a good man, CU. I wish I could get to know you in person.

Mike,

I'm late to thread, but can't express how sorry I am to hear this. You've always brought a ton of life to these boards, and you'll be sorely missed. Years back you let me and some of my extended family use your tickets on Mackay's west side and that was greatly appreciated. You've left a good mark on the world, and we're all really sad to see you go.

I can't imagine what you're going through, and wish you all the best.

Mike- We didn’t have many direct interactions and I certainly didn’t always agree with your point of view, but that doesn’t mean that reading about your plight doesn’t affect me. It’s a very sad thing to hear/read. I’m sorry you’re going through this, especially while still so “young”.   I dunno. Death will someday claim all of us, but maybe there will yet be “forums” like this at some future heretofore unknown time (and plane).  If so, we all will look forward to engaging you once again - in one way or another. I hope you can take solace in the fact that you have indeed left your mark on these parts…

(p.s. - Appreciate the pics.  Well done…)

Great pics, Convert.  I can relate to the 70s, fun times growing up. Thanks for sharing those.

My name is Mike Braithwaite, and very sadly I'm terminal. I just wanted to let everyone know that most of my act for many years was just that, and it's intention was good fun. But I also wanted to apologize if I went over the line with some of you, including Pack Nation and Pdoc. You're both good men, I can tell...even though we sparred so much. God bless both of you.

In real life, I'm one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, and getting baby formula and things like that are much more my real life persona. I wish all of you to have a great life and may the Good Lord bless all of you. I'm in tremendous pain, and looking to go to Oregon to get it over right away. I wish more states were like this. I just can't take the pain.

To my fellow Pack fans, keep the Pack alive with your never ending support. Go Pack!

To everyone else, thanks for all the great times, and hope your teams all kick ass every year. I wish you all health and happiness into the future.

Sean, you're a great New Mexico fan and one of the best men I've ever known. I love you, brother!

With Sincerity & Love,

Nevada Convert (Mike Braithwaite)

So sorry to hear this Convert. Your posts always amused me until they didn't and then we'd inevitably go back and forth. To think that it was all an epic troll job is certainly the icing on the cake! I hope for the best and a change in prognosis and condition and, in the absence of such an improvement, that you are as comfortable as possible and you're at peace. God speed Mike Convert.

Late to the post, haven't been here in a few weeks.  Mike - very sorry to hear about your diagnosis, rest easy my good man, you will be missed, and you will be remembered.  I am at a loss for further words, and am praying for you.

I'd like to point out that Eddie Vedder has been one of my dearest best friends ever to me, and although we had a couple of rough patches, I still consider him a brother even after all of these years. If anyone wants to see more pictures regarding the great times we had, toonkee, please post them so all can see the joy we had in the early days. I sent them to him a while ago. Those were the best of times.  I love you, Eddie. You're a great man with a great family, and you have my deepest respect and love.

I also love Brenda Inzunza from San Diego.

Mike Braithwaite respects and cares about people so much, and my board persona was done with fun in mind.

Not gonna lie, I couldn't ever figure out if you were being truthful or blowing smoke up our asses with the Eddie Vedder stuff.

No, totally real. Toonkee has all the photos. Please someone get ahold of him and tell him that I would want everyone to see them. It was a great time of life. The address of the house we were renting was 5163 Acuna St. in San Diego. Eddie was good at stage diving because he'd practice jumping off the fence into the pool. Virtually all of the first PJ album lyrics and lead vocal were written by him in the backyard naked on a scaffold we used to jump in the pool. A Nazarene Church was right next door. I'd come home for lunch when I was working at Farmers Insurance (this is where Eddie got into Polaroid Camera because he's use my work camera and used extra work film I had) and he'd play me what he had written so far and I gave him my comments.

In 1996, Rolling Stone published a bullshit article about Eddie and it pissed me off. So I decided to write a book to set the record straight. I never completely finished it. I got about 10 chapters done. I couldn't write a book, so I just wrote what happened. Here's my old non-existent website on the waybackmachine with a chapter or two of the book. I still think it's pretty interesting:

http://web.archive.org/web/20080617233126/http://www.cathedralstone.net/Pages/PearlJam.htm

"The Songwriter" is an interesting chapter linked at the bottom.
