Say what you will about Newsom and the CA Democrats, but the last thing they need to be dedicating any time and effort to right now is explaining in detail why state water used for industrial agriculture and suburban residential toilets doesn't have much to do with fire prevention and why forest management is irrelevant to fires in places that are not forests. 2

SDSUfan Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Water policy isn't necessarily the issue. The real problem is land use regulations mandating open space, preservation of natural habitat and wildlife corridors. To the uninitiated, wildlife corridors require that an animal such as a deer or mountain lion can range freely between the coast and the inland mountains unabated by man-made obstacles. Wildlife corridors turn into wildFIRE corridors under the right conditions. We've seen it over and over. The areas adjacent these open spaces and corridors are highly desirable, attracting many wealthy residents. The Palisades, abuting the ocean and isolated by designated open space is a prime example of this paradigm. Many of the homes there were built prior to most modern code restrictions. My brother built his home in the East County ( Alpine) about a decade ago. Steel frame construction, 2" high pressure fire suppression systems throughout, closed eaves, concrete roof tiles and landscaping to include brush mitigation were all part of the set of regulations he had comply to. This has nothing to do with TEH WARMMMING and everything to do with the same old urban/wildland interface that has been a problem since we started building cities in the coastal sage, which receives roughly 9"/yr rainfall and is tinder dry for about eight months/yr. 1 1
Soupslam Posted January 10 Posted January 10 They need to pave the whole fucking state. It would alleviate wild fires and traffic congestion at the same time. 1 1

Nothing at all. Trump might as well blame Jewish space lasers. The media spreads his disinfo and the base believes it. It's not that hard.

They weren't going to stop just because people moved into the area. That said, global warming likely has made them worse. Also making them worse is the bureaucracy and environmental regulations that make prescribed burns difficult to perform. It can take more than 7 years for a prescribed burn to be approved, which is sometimes longer than the natural fire cycle. So—politicians didn't start the fire, but they aren't helping prevent them. As a kid growing up in SoCal, we always had wildfires. Human caused and natural. The difference being they used to occur in unpopulated areas. Now, those areas are populated. 1

GregoryPierreTolkien Posted January 11 Posted January 11 LOL! At this point, the left probably thinks Trump controls the weather too. Fires in California? Must be Trump’s fault! 🙄 Maybe they should focus on their failed forest management and energy policies instead of screaming 'impeach' every five minutes. Absolute clown show. 1 2

And we won't be able to extract fossil fuels from where we do now because we can't grow food there either, we need Greenland and Canada so we can continue to grow food and extract from fossil fuels there. All this, so the Oligarchs can maintain their cash flow and improve their lifestyles.

He visited SF during the holidays. If the viable agriculture belt moves north then yes obviously places like his province will benefit. Asked him how many steps he takes a day on average and it was 26,000. He’s a farmer. I was impressed. 1
