In addition to the shots fired at his former QB, it’s weird for an experienced coach to take a shot at another program like that honestly.  I can’t imagine UTEP appreciated that.

Didn't UTEP beat the shit out of Boise the last time they played two years ago??

Seems very atypical of him.  Perhaps he was having a bad day?

We lost to UTEP sure. Probably the lowest point of our program since the loss to CSU Northridge in 1996.

He wasn’t wrong when he said UTEP is a horrible program. If you scroll to the bottom of this list you will see UTEP at the bottom just below UNLV

The kind that can afford to be honest.  The kind that doesn't need the work, and doesn't have to sing Kumbayah to put food on the table.

Why slam a kid on his way out the door? And why slam a school for taking him? I don't give a damn about whether he sings Kumbayah, but to insult them for no reason just sounds like an asshole.

But hey, if that's who he is.

That's a three time retired OC… not an AD. He's a grumpy old man, for sure. He was fiery when he was young, now he's cranky.

Dang it, I knew that, too. Brain fart I guess. Anyway, he sounded like a petulant child.

It was a stupid thing to say. Hopefully he regrets it.

I understand why he said it though

He absolutely could have stood up for his choice of QB without insulting his former player and another program. If fans are coming at him, that isn't the kid's fault, and it certainly isn't UTEP's.. no way to 'understand' that. He put a smudge on your program for no reason.

He said what he was thinking when he should have kept it to himself, or worded it more kindly. I understand his opinion though. I agree with his opinion.

Koetter has never been one to mince words. He was the same when he was head coach here. I remember him calling out our fans for lack of support. The media were afraid of him as he would call them on it if they asked a dumb question.

Yep. In 1998 he called out Boise fans for low attendance. Said we needed to decide if we were a fucking football town or not. I love his unapologetic directness , although it kind be hard for today’s culture that thrives on constant reassurance and overly polite bullshit. Probably the best time to just go enjoy retirement after a great career.

You lost the Heisman Trophy and the Fiesta Bowl and didn't break Sanders' record. Nobody cares.

Fresno has never been under any consideration or even close to any of those things. Sit down son.

That I get. Call out the fans, sometimes we deserve it.

When you’re an employee of an organization, and certainly a visible employee of a public university, there is just a level of professionalism expected.   That’s why I am surprised that someone like Koetter, who has been coaching for decades, would make such comments.  If he had already left Boise and then was just saying those things as part of a media job, it would be more understandable.  But maybe he just doesn’t give a shit, idk.

This would be the greatest season in the history of Fresno athletics.  Nobody gives a shit about baseball and softball

What is the QB situation at Boise St. next season?

Is it Maddox Madsen starting again?   I only watched parts of a few Boise State games this season, and he looked pretty short, with a mediocre arm.   The kid is probably a gamer---but Boise State has had a lot better QBs over the years.

Also, is Dirk Koetter retiring after this season?    He is a great coach -- would love to see him come back as the OC.

Looks like Boise State has a challenging schedule next season.   Hopefully they have some good RB talent in the pipeline:

Maddox Madsen is the presumed starter. According to Spencer Danielson Madsen is among the best QBs in the country.

Dirk Koetter stepped down as OC and is now an offensive consultant.

We play at Notre Dame next year. I’m going to go
