Why can't UNLV keep these guys home ? I know the staff tried to get DeGourville. KK didn't prioritize Compton at all. Crazy, I know. Because of all the wings they signed through the portal last year. KK has not staggered his classes well. Underclassmen are never taking over for upperclassmen. It's been 85% portal, 7.5% juco, 7.5% freshmen. The only freshman he's given meaningful minutes to is DJ. He redshirts or sits every other freshman he's signed in four seasons. If you're not a guard, chances are you won't play much as a freshman, or as a sophomore either. He's played Pape Ndyie a bit out of necessity this season. His track record giving young wing players and bigs minutes is poor. If I was a wing or big who wanted to play early, there's no way I sign to play for KK.

Rice, as awful as he was, didn't deserve to be discarded mid-season and it was an awful look for UNLV and turned a lot of coaches off on the program. Harper is too smart to pull amateur BS like that. 2

During his historic first season, his UNLV squad was ranked in the nation’s top 25 for 13-straight weeks and 14 overall, reaching as high as No. 11. He also guided the Runnin’ Rebels to 10 wins over top 25 teams during his tenure, including an upset over No. 1 North Carolina (11/26/11) and No. 3 Arizona (12/23/14). Rice helped bring two top 10 recruiting classes to UNLV along with a No. 11 class during his five seasons. The new Husky assistant also oversaw the development of Mountain West Freshman of the Year Rashad Vaughn who went on to be drafted No. 17 overall in 2015. Rice. Helluva recruiter. Believed in UNLV and that went a long, long way. That being said... He was a deer in the headlights. His roster construction was dumb most years. He recruited soft players who were always hurt. He recruited lazy, selfish guys who worried more about stats and the nba than UNLV and winning. I attended several of his practices and he was clueless. No idea how to get the best out of his players. Compared to his staff he was a complete beta male cuck. He should have been allowed to finish the season and perhaps should have been allowed to bring in the monster recruiting class he had signed. But most of them did get hurt the next year at their respective schools. Coincidence? I think not. 2 2

He has a way of making people feel important, listened to and respected. But his belief in UNLV was the catalyst. He did not see UNLV as a mid major in any way. Contrast that to Otzelberger, who saw UNLV as small potatoes. 2 1

Qwelish Posted Friday at 06:22 AM Posted Friday at 06:22 AM Mike Brown is a great coach, but his style of teaching, defense first and calling guys out is much better suited to the college game than the pros. He's won 4 nba championships and been to the finals 3 other times. He's coached Lebron James, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobli, Tony Parker, Rod Strickland, David Robinson, Shaquille ONeal, Ben Wallace, Steve Kerr, Reggie Miller, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Mitch Richmond, DeAaron Fox, Paul Gasol, Chris Webber, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry and Kobe Bryant. His recruiting would be absolutely off the charts. And he's only 54. 1

For the last year, you and I are seeing different things in Boise State athletics. Man, you've gotten soooo negative, which is unfortunate, because you've always been one of my favorite posters on this board. You've lost your objectivity recently and are hyper focused on the bad and not taking everything in. I pretty much stopped visiting this board mid way through the football season, because a couple of you made up your mind on the team over the summer and doubled down week and after week. No dialog, just the same shet over and over. Meanwhile, they made the CFB playoffs and won back to back MW titles for the first time. Ho hum. I just barely checked back in, and it's the same shet for the basketball team. I see nothing but Boise fans saying they would get blown out by UNLV. Hell, you had them losing by 40. Hyperbole, I know, but your sentiments were real. Reality is, objectively, Boise is a horrible match up for UNLV and was always going to clean their clocks. They'll beat them in Vegas too, unless things change from now until then. I did see you trolling Wyofan, and they were eating it up hook, line, and sinker. That's some funny shet. I was going to give a mid-season football analysis. The good, bad, and ugly… but then I looked at the thread and realized, it was completely pointless. So, I just kept it to myself. I'd love to talk about this basketball team, but there is no reason. It would be as frivolous as walking into church and trying to convince everyone there that God doesn't exist. Roughrider is still one that can still differentiate between positives and negatives, but I'm not sure how much he's posting anymore. Anyways, cheers bruh. Sorry for the late response, it’s been a brutal week at work. Thanks for complementing my Wyo and UNLoLV troll. Those two fan bases are always low hanging fruit, but I was surprised that HR bit on it. In terms of my negativity, it’s been selective. I loved this year’s football team outside of our pedestrian passing game. And I appreciate all the basketball coaches with the exception of Duryea. I’ve attended more football and basketball games than probably 95% of the Boise State fans on these boards, am a BAA member, and a donor to the Horseshoe NIL collective. So while I voice my frustrations, please don’t take that as me not enjoying or supporting our athletic programs. Cheers. 1
InnZoneU Posted Friday at 06:41 PM Posted Friday at 06:41 PM BB isn't that important. A little bit. It's why all of the old heads around UNLV are pissed. We could have put more money into the FB program a long time ago, but we had a very large group of people who wanted to kill FB and make sure all their donation money went into BB only. UNLV was literally taking donations specifically for BB program only. No worries, your money won't go to the FB or any other program lol. Now we got about 2k/game.

Also can't discount the NBA level, guys like Mike Brown and Billy Donovan. Yeah 4 years... Donovan would be an interesting guy. Not sure if the Bulls fire him but that's a guy I would be on although my guess is you'd have to pay him much more than whatever the buyout would be with the Bulls. Is the $$$ there? I'd want a guy with college coaching experience though. I've always liked Frank Martin but he's at UMass now and they suck ass 1

He's reliant on hiring good assts. He's pretty good at that. Many have gone on to head coaching gigs. SDSU even stole one a few years back. That's very rare that he lost an asst coach to a peer school. Typically, he's good at keeping his staff together, because he gives them a job and then let's them do it. This explains a lot about why Leon is such a mediocre coach. Does well enough to not get fired, but can’t /doesn’t coach his talented team to significant wins. So it sounds like Duryea is running your offense? Dang, he got fired for a reason. 1
