so maybe it wasn't the truck but the load of fireworks it was carrying?

https://www.npr.org/2025/01/01/nx-s1-5245215/tesla-truck-explosion-trump-las-vegas-hotel

According to a law enforcement official, the truck was rented via the Turo app and appeared to have a load of fireworks. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Packed with firework mortars and camping gas canisters. Looked cool but didn’t even break the Trump Tower’s glass front doors.

I did as well. Though my reason for not wanting one is that their quality control, which was already questionable, has tanked over the last couple of years.

Yep those lithium ion battery’s can suffer from safety issues.

My cousin's kid worked for the shop in SD that held the contract for Tesla warranty repairs and said their quality was all over the fucking map. I prefer a manufacturer with an ethos in which a premium focus is placed on QC to ensure shit dumpsters never leave the factory floor in the first place.

Bro, you need to get a Lucid. I highly recommend them, and I spent two months obsessively researching the vehicles and the company.  Faster than the 911 and more lux than the 5 series BMW.  I've owned all three and the Lucid is the only one where I was completely shocked at the experience.

This one seems extremely specious.  Especially with the sheriff going out of his way to praise Elon and the Cybertruck for preventing more damage. Something is off...

I had the same thought.

It sure looks like more of a protest gesture…At least that picture.

Some guy rented a Tesla Cyber Truck, loaded the back with gasoline, camping fuel, and mortar fireworks, parked it in front of the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas, and then blew it up.

I watched the video of the press conference, above.

Sheriff and the FBI said that the Cyber Truck construction caused the explosion to go up, rather than out, preventing more damage.   It shows photos of the back of the truck.

He should've rented a Pinto.

It would probably help if they explained that this wasn't a bomb.  If this was intentional, then the dude is an idiot for thinking packing a bunch of fireworks along with gas and propane camping containers was going to do any type of damage. And coming from an Army background, it's hard to imagine he'd think he'd be doing anything other than blowing himself and the car up.

My wife wanted one as well. We plan on buying an EV this year, but I'm glad we waited this long as there are so many new players in the increasingly competitive EV market. We're (finally 🙄) getting solar installed over the next 1-2 months and have included an EV charger for the garage in the scope of work.

But I think a rough draft of a 6-year old's drawing of a concept Tonka truck is a hard pass under the best of circumstances.

You can lease a 2024 Honda 2wd Touring Prologue for $350 monthly for a 27-month lease with zero down. MSRP is $54K. You won't find a better deal on an EV anywhere else. I just leased one, and I love it!

I had the wheels painted black and tinted the side two windows to match the privacy glass

The person who died in the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck packed with explosives outside President-elect Donald Trump’s Las Vegas hotel was an active-duty U.S. Army soldier, officials said Thursday.

Two law enforcement officials identified the man inside the futuristic-looking pickup truck as Matthew Livelsberger. The officials spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss an ongoing investigation.

Livelsberger was a member of the Army’s elite Green Berets, a special forces unit and guerrilla warfare experts, according to an Army statement. He has served in the Army since 2006, rising through the ranks, and was on approved leave when he died, the statement said. The Green Berets work to counter terrorists abroad using unconventional techniques.

Livelsberger spent time at the base formerly known as Fort Bragg, a massive Army base in North Carolina that is home to Army special forces command.

The FBI said Thursday in a post on X that it was “conducting law enforcement activity” at a home in Colorado Springs related to Wednesday’s explosion but provided no other details.

Thanks! Lucid was formed by a breakaway team of Tesla co-founders or early team members, right? I don't see many on the road here, but when I do see one, it catches my eye. My wife has a been carrying a she-chub for the i4 for so long I had to call our doctor, but I'm not as sold on them and due to the solar install, cost is a primary consideration due to the cost of the solar install. Tbh it will probably be months before we pull the trigger on anything, as it is our intent to focus on paying off the solar system within the year itself.

Nice rim job. 😀 Seriously tho, that does look sharp. And that does seem like a helluva deal for a $54K car. My wife has always been the lessee among us, wheres my preference has always been to buy a giant depreciating asset. I think she's the smarter one.

This story is such a bizarre collection of facts. Conspiracy theorists must be having a field day with this one.
