retrofade Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Man, that's sad. I've been winter backpacking/camping in the past, and it's no joke. 2

I know he was dealing with health issues... I've checked his page a few times since he (mostly?) stopped posting and see he's still around, but what's up? Did they have to amputate all his postin' fingers or something? 🤔 @Nevada Convert this is your welfare check.

He's disappeared several times over the years, but he always comes back. 1

Yeah, I've noticed that, but I recall he's dealing with some (serious IIRC) health issues. Here's to wishing you well, bud. 🍻 2
Cowboy Up Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Done some snow shoeing and winter camping myself. Absolutely awesome if you are prepared. 1

Absolutely awesome if you are prepared. Late winter/early spring is my favorite time to camp. Absolutely nobody around. Good chance to hear or even see wolves. Everything so silent and still. No such thing as bad weather (except extreme heat IMO) just bad preparation. 1
Cowboy Up Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Took my boys out in the Snowies… four feet of snow on the level. Well below zero at night. Had a blast. The solitude and peacefulness was life changing. Freeze dried food coffee and we had fun 1

Freeze dried food coffee and we had fun One of my favorite camping trips was 2 years ago on February 12th through the 16th for my birthday. I took my GF at the time and to this day I am so proud of her. The highs were in the single digits, the low was -1 to + 5 but with a wind feels like of - 14 at times. It's also the only time I have been on fire. The wind was so strong it blew our camping chairs into the fire. I ran out of the tent in my 3 layers of long John's (we had the rain fly adjusted so we could see the fire out of the corner of the tent) and picked them up and tossed them over my shoulder. The melted shit went all over me and caught my long johns on fire. The first and only time I had to stop, drop and roll. 1

Good thing we all learned how to stop, drop, and roll in elementary school! 🤣 1
