If Trump can convince that the Greenlanders can have autonomy and give them more than $500 million (the Denmark contribution) per year, I wouldn't say anything is totally off the table.

As crazy as it seems, Greenland is not too happy with Norway and could shift toward the U.S. It says it isn't for sale but it also wants to rid itself of colonialist Norway. The U.S. could offer it a Puerto Rico style deal.

Yes Denmark. Not Norway. Sorry.

It's an easy mistake in all honesty for history dudes.  Denmark and Norway were one country when they laid claim to Greenland.  When they broke up, the US made a claim.  The international community basically said "whoever can map it will have the strongest claim"  Denmark falsely claimed to have mapped it, but it was not even close.  After that lie the US let go their claim.

Seems like it would be more likely this would end up leading to Greenland gaining full independence rather than them becoming a U.S. colony.

Possible. Greenland has plenty of natural resources, but how can it obtain sustainability by itself? Seems like that would be kind of tough.

I just don’t see how it would be realistic for the U.S. to annex Greenland. But, I could see this creating a situation where Greenland feels the only way to ensure they don’t see their autonomy reduced is to be an independent nation.

Again, maybe. However, I didn't mean to imply just the U.S. annexing Greenland. Do you honestly think Greenland would be better off as a completely independent nation?

My New Year's resolution was to not be so critical of our politicians, but Trump put the kibosh on that for me already. 🙄 He's ridiculous!

I know very little about Greenfield, so I have absolutely no opinion about whether they would be better off independent.

My only opinion here is that I don’t think it is possible for the U.S. to gain control over Greenfield. Sure, there are a few different ways I can think of how this could THEORETICALLY happen, but when you actually look at the real world conditions I don’t see any way it could actually be done.

I don't think so either, but wouldn't that be something if it actually happened?
