Has anybody in this forum ever been there.

Does it have vacation potential?

It has great potential as re-education camp for global warming warriors.

Since they are always crying about the glaciers melting there, Trump will only allow them to wear tank tops and short during the winters there. If they want any heating fuel, they'll have to go mine for coal.

That was one of the best jokes.  I can't remember who did it?

Erik the Red, Leif's dad.

There's a pretty good YouTube documentary on the mystery of what happened to the last viking colony there

BFD. The capital is on the coast where the weather isn’t that bad. Winter clothes are for pussies like yourself.

Every time Trump has rattled his saber or threatened a country economically during his time as President or now as the President Elect, China comes in with economic support. Who are these countries going to gravitate to? Brilliant 4D chess by the genius and his “very fine people”.

On the Panama Canal:

“Trump said, that, once his second term is underway, ‘If the principles, both moral and legal, of this magnanimous gesture of giving are not followed, then we will demand that the Panama Canal be returned to the United States of America, in full, quickly and without question.’

‘I’m not going to stand for it,’ Trump said. ‘So to the officials of Panama, please be guided accordingly.’

He did not explain how that would be possible.”

I legitimately thought the Panama Canal stuff was a joke at first.

i mean we did kidnap their president once so these sorts of things aren't without precedent there.

to be fair - if he did decide to take it - what are they going to do lol? Can't see someone jumping in to start a war with us over it.

what a fucking strange 4 years this is going to be lol. truly one big fucked up game show.

So far, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Cuba, and China have all issued statements that the Canal belongs to Panama. The Secretary General of OAS (Organization of American States) also issued a statement saying he expects compliance with existing treaties.

.

Meantime Russian media is voicing their approval of the Greenland/Panama/etc proposals. One program said ""This is especially interesting because it drives a wedge between him and Europe, it undermines the world architecture, and opens up certain opportunities for our foreign policy," MIkheyev said, adding that if Trump "really wants to stop the third world war, the way out is simple: dividing up the world into spheres of influence.""

And we basically created Panama. It was part of Columbia. The US in 1903 cooperated with banking interests in what is now Panama. Panamanian independence was declared, which was instantly recognized by the US, which sent in Marines and warships. The quid pro quo was the right to complete the canal and a lease of the Canal Zone. Ah the good old days…

Trump wanted the NATO allies to spend more on defense…

“The Danish government has announced a huge boost in defence spending for Greenland, hours after US President-elect Donald Trump repeated his desire to purchase the Arctic territory.”

To be fair, Panama at least should not charge us for moving Naval assets.

We are their daddy.  They depend on us for economic and social development, as well as security.

China is trying to replace us in that role

They will probably succeed because we are too busy with political infighting here to focus on long range global strategy

I really think your views are out of date. According to: https://www.foreignassistance.gov/cd/panama/

we provided $73M in foreign aid to Panama in 2024. China in 2024 invested $1.3 billion in canal-related infrastructure. I also suspect that Panamanian views on their security threats would vary drastically from ours. We invaded them after all and sent in the Marines several times before that.
