retrofade Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 President-elect Donald Trump shared his renewed interest Sunday in the U.S. controlling the autonomous territory of Greenland, which is owned by Denmark. "For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity," Trump wrote in a statement announcing that he had chosen Ken Howery to serve as ambassador to Denmark. Greenland's prime minister, Mute Egede, has already rejected Trump's remarks, saying in a statement: “Greenland is ours. We are not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our long struggle for freedom," according to Reuters. Trump floated purchasing Greenland during his first term as president on multiple occasions. He told reporters in 2019 about the island, “Strategically it’s interesting, and we’d be interested, but we’ll talk to them a little bit.” “First we have to find out whether or not they have any interest,” he added. “They’re losing a tremendous amount of money, so we’ll see what happens.” At that point, Denmark said that Greenland was not for sale, which caused Trump to cancel a trip he had scheduled to the country. He said in a tweet that Denmark is "a very special country with incredible people, but based on Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s comments, that she would have no interest in discussing the purchase of Greenland, I will be postponing our meeting scheduled in two weeks for another time.” Miles Taylor, who was chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security in the first Trump administration, told MSNBC in 2020 that Trump had asked him and other officials in 2018 whether the U.S. could swap Greenland for Puerto Rico because, in Trump’s words, “Puerto Rico was dirty and the people were poor." He said the conversation occurred before DHS officials traveled to Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory, to help with the recovery from Hurricane Maria. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-says-ownership-greenland-absolute-necessity-rcna185197 2

mugtang Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Honestly, buying Greenland is a good idea for our economic and national security. 1 2
FresnoFacts Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Greenland, Canada, the Panama Canal Zone, whatever next. The new empire building competition? Competing with Putin over who can annex the most land?
RSF Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Im for sale, but if Trump’s the buyer I want the money up front…. 1
Old_SD_Dude Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 On the Panama Canal: “Trump said, that, once his second term is underway, ‘If the principles, both moral and legal, of this magnanimous gesture of giving are not followed, then we will demand that the Panama Canal be returned to the United States of America, in full, quickly and without question.’ ‘I’m not going to stand for it,’ Trump said. ‘So to the officials of Panama, please be guided accordingly.’ He did not explain how that would be possible.”

Competing with Putin over who can annex the most land? There's no competition. Quite the opposite actually, more like a collaborative project. We'll work our way east. And Russia will work its way west. The project will be complete when we meet in the middle, and the Russo-American Empire is formed. 1

FresnoFacts Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Well Congress did not get rid of the debt limit so we cannot buy any new territory. But we are going to deploy the military to our Southern Border. Maybe Trump could then send our forces into Mexico to destroy the Cartels. After that I guess they could keep going all the way to Panama. Maybe follow the eastern Mexico coast and also annex Vera Cruz, Tamaulipas, Quintana Roo, etc. for their oil industries and hotels while heading to take back the Panama Canal. I guess that is one way to expand and follow a potential Southern Manifest Destiny. Then if we cannot buy or trade for Greenland we just turn the military north and head toward Greenland annexing Canada along the way. Our potential Northern Manifest Destiny. Of course does that mean we have to reinstate a military draft like Russia? Or maybe we need to brush up on the rules for the board game "Risk"? 1

But the locals are trying to increase tourism to Greenland. United recently started a direct flight from New York to Greenland that runs during the summer twice per week.

He can’t legally deploy the military within the United States except in certain circumstances. Not sure dealing with immigration qualifies. But I’m also just a social media attorney and not a real attorney.

Or simply skip the immigration enforcement and just send the military south against the Cartels and Panama? There are probably multiple ways to make the Southern Manifest Destiny happen.

So we’re invading foreign nations now? I thought Trump was the most peaceful president and not a warmonger…. (Comment not necessarily directed at you).

FresnoFacts Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Corey Lewandowski on Newsmax this morning: "Well, look, Donald Trump is a real estate master, and he understands the historic and the strategic, more importantly, significance of Greenland. There is a very important strategic value to the United States having control of this. And by the way, we have not expanded our country in 70 years. So, look, Donald Trump is, again, thinking outside the box. How do we have a lasting impact on the world stage? What does his legacy look like?" This is someone who has a vision for America's greatness long after he has left the White House, and this is just part." https://rumble.com/v6267q8-corey-lewandowski-defends-trumps-greenland-takeover-plan.html

When that doesn't work will he go further or back down? No one knows. But it is also why I am more concerned about who he surrounds himself with in this term than Trump himself.
