WSU's very public woes and mass defections in coaching & players certainly won't help the PAC's TV $$

I doubt it has any impact whatsoever

There’s a bit of a difference being propped up by the likes of USC, Washington, and Oregon vs. Boise State, Fresno State, and SDSU.

OSU & WSU are more on the same level as those new PAC schools.  They just happened to reap the benefits of being P4 for so many years that they are just hitting rough waters for a bit of a time.  Not easy to stay that competitive while taking a big financial haircut.

Have you no historical perspective?  The Cougs and to a lesser extent the Beavs have had competitive seasons sprinkled in here and there but overall, they have historically been two of the worst Power conference athletic departments.  These 'rough waters' as you say are nothing new to WOSU.  Yes, they should do better in terms of W's and L's in the G6 because they have essentially always been G6 athletic departments.

I can't speak for Wazzu. But in the last 15 or so years, OSU has won three NCAA baseball championships; has been to the CWS three other times; has had two players selected 1/1 in the MLB draft (Rutschman, Bazzana); has been to two softball CWS; has been to a men's Elite 8, a women's Final Four and numerous women's Elite 8s (including last year); has had two Biletnikoff Trophy winners (Brandin Cooks, Mike Haas); has had a Lou Groza Award winner (Alexis Serna); played in bowl games in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2021, 2022 and 2023; has played in an NCAA men's soccer Final Four, an Elite 8, with at least five players drafted in the first round of the MLS draft, including a 1/1; has advanced to numerous NCAA women's gymnastics national-championship meets, had numerous women's T&F All-Americans, and has had current/former athletes win numerous Olympic Gold medals.

OSU's athletic department was far, far, far from the worst in P5.

Baseball is not a revenue Sport. While it is "nice" to have Oly titles, they still don't pay their way.

You guys had some really good seasons when Mike Leech was your Coach. Even with a guy like him, they still couldn't recruit enough good players to win the Pac. It's Pullman.

Most every to School in the MW and nPac are small market Schools, with decent fanbases, and  a history of being competitive against bigger competition. At least now they are on a more level playing field.

Mike Leach never coached at Oregon State. And at some schools, where you draw 3K per game, baseball is a revenue sport.

Yep. But not because of on-field performance, as was presumed.

I'm looking forward to the new Pac. I wish it started next fall instead of putting both leagues through another lame-duck season.

If 3K attendance is all it takes to be a “revenue sport” then BYU has a ton of them.  Sadly, all those “revenue sports” still operate in the red.

Oregon State baseball lost 3.18 million last year, it was your athletic departments biggest loser followed by women's rowing at a 1.8 million deficit.

My bad. You had a good one in J Smith. Prior to that, you have to go back to Mike Riley.

1.82 million loss my bad....still a fucking money pit

"As is typical, football and men’s basketball were the only sports to produce a net profit. Football’s surplus was $16.51 million, while men’s basketball’s profit was $754,033. The sport with the largest deficit was women’s basketball at $3.18 million, followed by women’s rowing at $1.84 million and baseball at $1.82 million."

Here is your own damn fan base talking about it.

Baseball is not a revenue sport for OSU. Last I saw you guys spent over a million net negative in a single year

How many backs did your team stab to get into the Mtn West Conf?

Oh the hypocrisy...

The difference is that if the MWC had stayed together, the PAC2 would have joined the MWC and all would be good....plus there would have been plenty of money saved all around....the MWC 14 could have then instituted revenue distribution based on performance....win all around.....

Hearing again today from a very reputable source that the new Pac media package to be in the range of $15 million per team.

Also, the budget (about $92m) will be reduced to about $75m by 2026-27, barring an increase in direct institutional funding, which is not out of the question. OSU's budget is 13% from institutional sources, which is quite low for G6 athletic programs.

Not exactly sure how the reduction is going to happen, but there will be come belt-tightening. I expect the Civil War will be replaced by an annual body-bag game someplace.

Good news on the Media front. Fingers crossed of funding.  Will they raise student fees ?

OSU -Boise seems like a natural !

When the Utes went to the Pac, they still played BYU most years, but the fan focus switched to USC and Oregon.

New Conference, new rivals.
