FresnoFacts Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Mexico's President Sheinbaum hits back about the "Gulf of America" renaming proposal by sharing a historical name. 1
FresnoFacts Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Everyone is jumping on the renaming game. Is DeSantis going to standup for Florida or is he going to let Texas' Abbott get away with this.

But no one cares as long as they believe gas is cheap and the minorities are under lock and key. Sounds like you’ve bought into the mainstream media doom and gloom. Under Trump, gas prices did drop because we were energy independent. More drilling means more supply, which lowers prices, basic economics. And no, most of the oil wasn’t getting shipped overseas. It was staying here to keep prices down for us. As for taxes, Trump’s tax cuts helped working families too, not just the wealthy. I felt that in my own paycheck. I’m not some billionaire, just a guy working hard to support his family. And dragging race into this? Come on. This is about making life affordable for everyone, not dividing people. Let’s stick to the facts. 1 1

I’m talking about the tax cuts that helped regular working folks like me. When Trump’s tax plan went through, my family saw more money in our pockets, not because we’re rich, but because we’re just middle-class Americans trying to make ends meet. Sure, the rich got tax breaks too, but that’s always how it works, they pay more taxes, so any cut will look bigger for them. But to say it only helped the rich? That’s not true. Families like mine benefitted, and I’m betting a lot of other folks did too.

I'm happy, you felt better off economically. I won't. I am a retiree and a Veteran. They're coming after folk like me to put a few extra bucks in your pocket to get your vote. Enjoy your nominal tax cut at my expense. 1

But I don’t believe Trump’s policies were about hurting retirees or veterans. In fact, he pushed for better funding for the VA and worked on programs to support veterans' healthcare and benefits. I get that not every policy helps everyone the same way, but I don’t think it’s fair to say my family’s small tax break came at your expense. The goal was to boost the whole economy so more people could thrive. I’m not some billionaire cheering for corporate handouts, I’m just trying to make sure my kids have a better future. We might not agree on everything, but I don’t think Trump was out to hurt veterans or retirees. 1

The Community Cares Act directly benefits me and millions of vets by allowing us to seek care in our home town instead of long drives to the nearest VA However, to finance tax cuts his kind of people, he is coming after my kind of folk. Revel in your few extra dollars a month at my expense. 1

That’s real impact, and it’s good to hear it made a difference for you. But I don’t believe tax cuts for families like mine were meant to hurt veterans or retirees. The goal was to grow the economy and give people more opportunities. I’m not celebrating a few extra dollars if it’s really at your expense. That’s not what I want. I just want leadership that helps all Americans, whether it’s working families or veterans who have already sacrificed so much. We might not agree on everything, but I think we both want a country that takes care of its own.

I suppose they could try, but it’d be pretty tough for them to build up their presence in Transnistria beyond what it currently is. Plus is an official annexation of Transnistria even worth it? Ukraine has almost 40 million citizens. The population of Moldova is less than 3 million. From Wikipedia: "Scholars have characterized Moldova as an unstable democracy with systemic corruption and a deep cleavage regarding national identity." Putin having Russian soldiers simply march into Moldova would be akin to Hitler having the Wehrmacht march into the Sudetenland in 1938. Most of the world would complain but under the circumstances most Russians would think Putin's dick got an additional inch longer.

Yea I just reject any analogy that compares modern day Russia to Nazi Germany. Modern day Russia is incapable of conquering all of Europe. So yea, again, I’m not really sure what officially annexing Transnistria would do for Russia since they already effectively control it.

We might not agree on everything, but I think we both want a country that takes care of its own. What most don't realize about Trumpism, especially the Maga movement, is his policies benefit billionaires. With just enough crumbs to appease the middle classes. The money is not coming from DHS. It's not coming from the Military, ICE, Border Control, Justice, or any other pet Agency. It's coming from so-called welfare programs. Food stamps, housing assistance, (to help folk stay in their hovels), Social Security, (more homeless seniors), Medicare (the boomers will die quicker without meds and treatment), Vets benefits (more homeless and increased drugs addiction rates). I'm a dystopian oligarchy driven society, those are the most cost effective solutions to many of our social and budget issues. Let the vulnerable die from exposure. We won't have problems finding SS or Medicare because no one will have it. Tens of millions of seniors and other vulnerable populations gone within a year from neglect. But, the haves won't have to worry about seeing them on the street corners or parks because numerous States and Communities have declared war on the marginalized and homeless in our communities. In many places it is illegal to be homeless. Communities are pushing back on warming shelters, overnight facilities, and new complexes. I'm certain our tax dollars will start going towards building homeless encampments out in the desert. That way we won't have to see the outcomes of our desires to have lower taxes.
