RebelTexan Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 https://lasvegassun.com/news/2024/dec/12/unlv-hires-dan-mullen-as-next-football-coach/ By Mike Grimala (contact) Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024 | 8:37 a.m. UNLV’s search is over, as the school is hiring Dan Mullen as its next football coach. Brett McMurphy of Action News reported the deal was done on Thursday morning. Mullen, 52, comes with a wealth of head coaching experience, which was the top prerequisite of UNLV athletic director Erick Harper. Mullen previously served as head coached at Mississippi State from 2009 to 2017 before taking the Florida job from 2018 to 2021. With a career record of 103-61, Mullen is a proven winner. He went 54-53 in SEC play and took his teams to 11 bowl games in his 13 years. Three of his Mississippi State teams finished the season ranked in the AP Top 25, while three of his Florida teams accomplished the feat. 10 5
Poster17 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Love this hire. It shows a true commitment to building on what Coach Odom started. Eric Harper, UNLV AD, is not joking around with the football program. He wants to leave a legacy at UNLV, and in the football program he has certainly done that. Now, let's get that bball program up to speed. 13
KingSpartan Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 That's a solid hire that will keep the fans engaged. 5 1
Madmartigan Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Great Hire. Could not have done better short of Saban coming out of retirement. Rebs are here to stay as a top football team in the MW IMO. 4 2
Rebels2k3 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Quote "The two sides were in active discussions late Wednesday night, with the deal being finalized Thursday morning, sources familiar with the situation said. UNLV was able to entice Mullen with an increased name, image and likeness budget in addition to revenue-sharing payments for players starting next season. UNLV is a member of the Mountain West and is not legally obligated to participate in the upcoming revenue-sharing model that will be enforced within the four power conferences beginning as early as July 1, but the Group of Five school is prepared to pay players via a smaller revenue sharing model, a source briefed on the discussions.. In addition, the NIL payments outside the revenue-sharing model is expected to more than double to a total of several million dollars." https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/dan-mullen-takes-unlv-job-former-florida-mississippi-state-coach-enticed-by-nil-commitment/ 3
ZonaPoke Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Getting a coach who doesn't have fans asking "who?" When they hear his name was probably a priority to keep Rebel fans engaged. A+ grade there And getting a coach good enough to make Dak Prescott look competent is just icing on the cake! 2 1
Shoichi808 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Great hire by the Rebels. History of success as a HC at both Miss St and Florida. 3
Spaztecs Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Vegas finally living up to their potential and becoming the alpha of the MW just as it's about to become even less relevant. 3 1 1

Everything gets reshuffled in 5 years. The idea is to best position yourself for that reshuffle. 2

Something doesn't quite add up in Viva....

Why pay to stay the same especially when you can pay off debt and move in the next reshuffle or whenever you want with no exit fee? As for the NIL influx, thank the casinos which are starting to get behind it. They also have strong ties to the B12. Not saying that is in the cards, but it is the goal. Got 5 years to pull it off. If casinos are dishing up NIL money then you better believe they think it might be a possibility. In any case.......UNLV is in great shape for the next 5+ years. 4 1 2

The NEW 12-PACk & MWCs are NOT the "SAME!!!" Y'all are in bed w/Grand Cyn & a UC school [not in LA or Berkeley] for God's sake. 1 1 2
