It looks like Bibi is going to use this as an opportunity to steal some Syrian land.  The settlers won't be far behind, I assume.  The "buffer zone" will soon be like the Golan Heights--part of Israel.

There are reports coming out of Syria that Assad's plane crashed. No confirmation yet, but the rumors seem to be true.

Ignore this, my dumb ass went off of old reports from yesterday. He's alive and well in Russia.

Have nothing but hate toward the Syrian regime since they tried to kill me one night years ago. But this is going to be like a Levant-flavored Libya for a bit.

Well Syria lost the Golan Heights after their ill fated attempt to invade and destroy Israel, so I have no issues with Israel holding on to it. Same for the West Bank and Gaza. Jordan and Egypt fucked around and found out. They lost territory due to their own military incompetence and the stupid decision to destroy Israel. Israel should've kept the Sinai Peninsula as well.

I agree with all this.  I just hope all the religious crazies in Syria remember that the jets that were bombing them had red stars...

My fear is this gives Turkey Carte Blanche to go after the Syrian Kurds. The Kurds always end up getting screwed.

When did this happen?  The 1970s?  This sounds like a Putinesque pretext to slice off territory that doesn't belong to you.  "Might makes right."

I don't think Israel will do that unless the new regime seriously threatened them, and I'm not advocating for them to do it.

Interesting thing is that years ago (I think in the early 90s) the US had damn near brokered a truce/deal between the Israelis and Hafez Assad but the stickler was the Golan. Hafez wanted it back bc he swam there as a kid. The Israelis wouldn’t budge. So a deal never happened.

in the 80s too…Reagan had almost brokered a deal between Lebanon and Israel but Syria and Friends assassinated Gemayel and it fell apart.

It's gonna get pretty spicy. There is no way in hell all the different rebel groups are going to play well with each other. It's going to be Libya 2.0 for awhile.

Erdogan would be fucking livid. That dude is only in power because of his bullshit fear mongering of the Kurds forming their own state and immediately attacking Turkey.
