I think 16 will ultimately be where it goes but they will have to get creative in how they set it up because the tv slots aren't there for 8 playoff games in a week due to the NFL taking over December.  Creating a double bye would allow them to stagger the games so that they minimize going head to head against the NFL machine.  4 highest ranked conference champs get byes to the quarter finals and the 4 highest ranked teams remaining receive a bye to the 2nd round.

I always wonder how much overlap there is for the NFL and college.  I watch both, but I have noticed that there are a lot of Mercedes and BMW commercials during college games and a lot of F150 and Sierra commercials during the NFL games.

It isn't so much overlap as much as it is that the NFL simply doesn't tolerate "competition".  Once the NFL decides that this day or that one is an NFL day they bury anyone who doesn't get out of their way.  see them putting games up against the playoff this year or how they took over Thursday nights from college football about a decade ago or how they took over Christmas day from the NBA in the past few years.   If not for the agreement they have when they have as part of their antitrust exception with the federal government the NFL would have kicked college football off Saturdays entirely years ago.

I think Boise has the best bracket.  Would rather play either of the teams Boise will get than either of the teams Oregon will get.

That's fair, but it's the old expression - to be the best you have to beat the best. Penn State or SMU might be an easier opponent than tOSU or Tennessee, but at the same time, BSU is on Georgia's and Notre Dame's side of the bracket. If all you want is to make the quarterfinals, then you're good. Otherwise, if a tough road for everyone.

Funny thing.  Since Boise has been included as an option for the Fiesta bowl they have won it more than any other school.  They will win it again this year.

Of course, but it still would be nice to have the easier game in that round.  All the teams are good.

Nice try.  I know they like to make up myths about their school, but they have not won the Fiesta Bowl more than any other school.  They're not even in the top three.

Penn State 7x

Arizona State 5x

Ohio State 5x

Boise, Oregon, Oklahoma State 3x

Never said the most all time.   Since Boise has been included as an option.  It’s actually pretty impressive.  Made some noise there for sure.

That's better than bowl games

Those games could be played at bowl games.

I say fuck the bowls!  Play them wherever it makes the most sense.  Start off at home and then maybe go neutral for final 4.

Play all 11 games at Jerry's World back to back all on the same weekend.

I loved bowl games in the past and right now, I would not be saddened if those went away for a playoff.

I was very resistant to this type of change to the CFP postseason structure but that resistance collapsed faster than the deposed Syrian president's regime.

This would be awesome. It would also make lots of money. d

The only thing that would suck would be a team like UNLV where the team the showed up to play in the playoffs is not the team who played the 2024 season because their coach left and a lot of the team hit the portal.

They need to find a way to fix the portal so kids and coaches don't leave before the season is over.  It's so hard though with dealing with college enrollment timelines.
