The best thing about the bye is they'll beat each other up while Boise gets rest and healthier. That's about the best case scenario for Boise.

Herbstreit is a vapid talking hairdo without an original thought in his head. He essentially just parrots whatever the execs tell him. After all, their primary legal fiduciary duty is to maximize shareholder value, and that means promoting the SEC over the rest of college football shamelessly and at all times. 1
bornontheblue Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Anyone else bought tickets directly from the fiesta bowl yet.
CV147 Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 What bowl would Boise play in should they beat SMU/Penn State?

4rowsup Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 All the power conferences really pissed at seeding and the automatic bye. They have not called out BSU by name but you know that is what they are thinking. I do believe they will change the way the seeding works next year and the G5 champ will not see a first round bye. 3

Its the ACC and B12 which have a problem with the byes but they no longer are part of the power group making decisions here. For the B1G/SEC the byes did exactly what they wanted which was enhance the value of their conference championship games. The B1G/SEC's problem is rooted in the at-large selections which I suspect we will see them address through expanding the field and include more auto bids for themselves.

For some reason The decision makers still just can't bring themselves to break from the bowl games so I imagine from the quarters onward they'll still be around. But 14 teams top 2 conference champs get the bye (I wonder who those will be) 4 auto-bids: B1G & SEC 2 auto bids: ACC & B12 1 auto bid to G6 1 at large that has Notre Dame's name written all over it. 1

Bowls are going to need to put together some really nice "educational conferences" in the Caribbean for the AD's this Winter. I remember the Ohio State AD saying that there shouldn't be any home games and that Ohio Stadium wasn't equipped for a Winter game...and oh yeah, he was on the Board of Directors of the Fiesta Bowl at the same time.
UtGrizfan Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Hope Boise bare minimum gets passed either PSU or SMU 2 1

More income more games. They will not give SEC / BIG10 auto bids. Opens themselves up to law suits. No need when the committee is weighted with p4 members. They will retain conference champs getting home games. Hoping this all gets done sooner than later. Sticking point will be top 6 conference winners get auto bid. Really want to see the MW and AAC get a fair shot.
CV147 Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 The SEC and the Big 10 should just break away already and spare us the pretense that they believe every team should have a chance at a championship. They can seed their playoff spots in the preseason. 2

Was really nice to see Herbstreet and Saban visually upset. Then listen to the Michigan AD slap the SEC in the face. Thank you BIG10. 4

Both are tough opponents, but both are beatable. I think we match up better with Penn State which is a more ground and pound type team where our strength is in our front seven on defense. The good news is the game is at the Fiesta Bowl where we are undefeated and have traveled well to. We’ve had as many or more fans there when we played OU, TCU, and UA in the past. With several weeks before the game to heal and rest we should be at our best health since the first game with Georgia Southern. 2
BYUcougfan Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 I think Boise has the best bracket. Would rather play either of the teams Boise will get than either of the teams Oregon will get. 1

I think 16 will ultimately be where it goes but they will have to get creative in how they set it up because the tv slots aren't there for 8 playoff games in a week due to the NFL taking over December. Creating a double bye would allow them to stagger the games so that they minimize going head to head against the NFL machine. 4 highest ranked conference champs get byes to the quarter finals and the 4 highest ranked teams remaining receive a bye to the 2nd round.
