There is zero reason the place where so many of our citizens go for news should be controlled by an authoritarian foreign government. Bravo. I hope the supreme court follows suit.

I stated this opinion many times. And as the Mad Man stated, it's already happening. I'm glad I grew up when I did.

I saw an interview with Harari and he made a good point, it's not so much SM that's the issue, it's that there is no control on the algorithms.  I'm reading his latest which is discussing AI.  His main point is we should put guard rails/controls in place before things get going.  Be pro-active instead of reactive which is what we have done with SM.

I struggle with this issue somewhat. My main problem with TikTok is that it’s basically run by the CCP whose purpose in using it is to harvest data on Americans and destabilize the country in general. American owned social media companies are also nefarious for their lack of accountability in protecting children, but controlling an algorithm seems like a violation of free speech. This is obviously uncharted territory we haven’t faced before, but I don’t know if the answer is strict censorship of the algorithm or suppression of misinformation and hate speech (not that that’s what you were suggesting).
