Neighbor 1 lets his dog out at around 4:30 every morning to shit or whatever but it runs around barking for 30 minutes waking me up every time. Neighbors 2-4 let their dogs out around 6:30 and they bark FOR HOURS, just barking at eachother until about 9. I talked to neighbor one and with the 4:30 barking dog and he got super aggressive. He leaves for work at 5 AM and says it's the only time he can let his dog out to shit and piss and whatever. The other neighbors I can't identify exactly where they are coming from. It's like a block away but they barking FOR HOURS in the early morning. I used to love dogs, I am starting to hate them lol. How would you deal with this? Please don't harm the dog. My advice would be to go to outside at around 3 am and fucking blast Taylor Swift as loud as you fucking can and return the favor. Do this every day the dogs are constantly nuisance barking. The barking will stop quickly.

Here, there is something similar to a three strikes policy - the first time you have a barking dog complain filed against you, you receive a courtesy notice from county animal control. The second time, you receive a warning of an impending fine and confiscation of the animal. The third time - which requires a second neighbor from a different address to cosign - they take the dog. When I first addressed this with such a neighbor I suggested they use bark collars, which they started to do. Provided they kept fresh charges/batteries in those things, they ere effective. Which they didn't do. I increasingly became an asshole about it until they modified their asshole dog husbandry habits. Dude, you’re going all Blue State. We’re talking Idaho… Once they come for your dogs the next thing is your guns. 1 1
InnZoneU Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 So the owners are idiots and the only answer is to hurt the dog. The dog is just being a dog. The owner needs the correction. Some of you people are straight up fckn idiots. 1

halfmanhalfbronco Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 OK, so I took @happycamper advice. I waited until he got home, doing some yard work until he pulled up. I offered to take his dog out twice a day and for a walk once a day. He said he did not feel comfortable giving me a key to his house but his attitude did a complete 180. Turns out he is a big Boise fan and just got out of a break up where his ex had been letting the dog out around 10. He agreed he will go outside with his dog while it does his thing to keep him from barking for 30 minutes while he showers and appologized. He appreciated I made the offer instead of sending folks to his door. I guess others have left anonymous notes on his door as well. He appreciated my straightforward approach. Thanks happy 5 3

Coalman29 Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 I wouldn't worry too much about it. The dog owner probably works really hard and donates to charity.... 2

If they don’t get the message the cayenne hot dog will work as will a soft powered BB gun that doesn’t injure the dog but sends a message. Make sure you look at local laws and that discharging a BB gun in your yard is acceptable. It should be in Boise. The neighbors will get the message and you’ll likely not be liable for anything so long as you don’t injure the dogs. I abhor dog owners who haven’t taken the time to train their dogs for OB at the very least. I’ve owned dogs who barked once in my backyard and I put the bark collar on them asap and it fixed the problem. I’ve got a cunt across the street from me who attempts to “save” Great Pyrenees dogs and she refuses to train them not to bark and it drives me insane. They are far enough away to where I can’t hear them if I’m in my house but it’s the lack of courtesy to the neighbors that pisses me off. If they are Great Pyrenees there is no training them not to bark. They are night time herd dogs and they are going to bark. We have a GP mix and he barks all the time. I have trained him when the porch light comes on to come in the house and we shut the dog door. But training them not to bark is like training the wind not to blow. That includes dog collars as he has been known to bark through that. Now granted we live in the country with all kinds of critters around but a GP is going to make it clear they need to stay away.

Yep turns out he was a pretty decent guy who was willing to show some effort after receiving some compassion. Your neighbors and countrymen tend to be pretty good people far more often than not!
PurpleMountainHuskie Posted January 5 Posted January 5 In my neighborhood, it's the dog owners who let their dogs take a dump in my yard but never pick it up. These people know it's wrong, but do it anyway. Whenever they don't see me in my garage and I walk out, the try to move along real fast. One guy didn't do that, he just stood there when I walked out. 🙂 I had to tell him he was jerk and I felt like "Get off my lawn" Clint Eastwood. lol. I've heard of a mechanism that activates your lawn irrigation system....thinking about getting one of those.
Hashbrowns Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Ultrasonic dog bark deterrents can be pretty effective as well. Some dogs they work great for. Other dogs don’t give a shit. But may be worth trying. An 8 foot tall concrete wall would also be effective.
son of a gun Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago The neighborhood I moved to luckily has a bunch of dogs, so my dog barking isn't an issue by any means. And she is ALL bark no bite. I guess that happens with mini Schnauzers. Her one annoying habit though, is that after she's calmed down when someone comes over, when they go to leave, she starts barking again. Even after she let them pet her belly and chest (she prefers that over her back) and laid down right by them. And she does it in a way that you know she's basically saying, "How dare you leave! How dare!" But yeah, she just barks, and mainly only when on the house property and off her leash. On her leash, she's a lot quieter.
