VincentVegaBond Posted yesterday at 02:32 AM Posted yesterday at 02:32 AM I haven't really been that engaged this year and have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, it's pretty nice not to be super invested in a mediocre team. Didn't watch a second of these last 2 games and didn't even check the score of either until late in the games. Have already willingly missed 2 games at the Mack also. They've just been so "meh" for so long now it's getting harder and harder to invest in the team. And does the UNLV admin even give a shit? On the other hand, I truly miss the days where I had genuine excitement for the program. I wasn't even here for the glory years either, but Bayno, Lon, even Rice's first few years before it became clear how utterly incompetent he was, he'll even Spoonball was eons better than what we've been forced to endure for a dozen years now. I truly like KK but it's pretty apparent he's a mediocre at best coach. Like I said in an earlier post, if he's extended the higher ups are waving the white flag for UNLV hoops. 3
SDSUfan Posted yesterday at 02:32 AM Posted yesterday at 02:32 AM You guys have chance to be good. MUST play more aggressive on ball defense. MUST get your bigs to play in the flow of the game. Have to find some depth.

Frustrating as hell to watch. I think they’re a lot better than what they’ve shown so far but I don’t have any faith in KK to put this together. In more capable hands this would definitely be a NCAAT squad. 2

The 2nd half of the Memphis game was as you said, frustrating as hell to watch as Kruger snatched defeat from the jaws of victory after Penny's halftime adjustments flabbergasted him. Far too many games like that resulting in close losses during his tenure (not to mention the horrendous blowouts vs crap teams!), Eerily reminiscent of recently fired Eberflus of the Chicago Bears. 1

If I cared to look on the old board, I could show you where YOU and the other delusional Rubble morons were having this exact discussion this time last year. By the end of the season you were gargling his nut sack and declaring him the BESTEST EVAH. But keep it up. It's highly entertaining I usually wait til after a few games into mworst play to determine what I think about the team. But even then Rebs got destroyed at home v afa and KK survived. With that said, this is not looking good at all. The bar should be higher this season, but this team is not playing as well as last year's version. It's not looking good for Kruger. His guys are getting hurt too much and his star guard is playing pretty mediocre. They need to get healthy and just play better.

Fans all want big time schedules, but how about hitting a softball 1st? The new conference should be winnable and set UNLV up for postseason success. But if UNLV doesn't get it right, they'll be playing 2nd fiddle to gcu and utep. What we have now is not cutting it.

Taking 4 years to build a mediocre product is unacceptable. Somethings going to give. Kruger and his team are going to step it up, turn it on and finish at or near the top of the conference, or Erick Harper is going to fire and replace him. So far Erick Harper has shown that he is much better at his job, than Kevin Kruger is at his. I'm ready for an epic run or a coaching search. 1

So far Erick Harper has shown that he is much better at his job, than Kevin Kruger is at his. I'm ready for an epic run or a coaching search. Harper hit a grand slam with hiring Odom, but I'm still nervous as hell with any UNLV basketball coaching search and rightfully so. In my entire lifetime as a fan which stretches back 30 years to the mid 90's, they've only gotten it right once (Lon Kruger). Then they screwed that up by letting him bolt to Oklahoma when he happily would have stayed had they ponied up for him. Most of the other searches have not only been failures but absolute embarrassments. I know Harper had nothing to do with those but it's almost like the program itself is cursed its been so bad. And now with NIL and all the good teams leaving the MW I worry it's going to be even harder this time around. Like I said before, they must find a way to hire a legit good coach otherwise might as well just keep Kevin or it'll be yet another 3-5 year cycle of crap.
