PTR Posted November 29 Posted November 29 UNM goes down 85-82 to ASU. Entertaining game and pretty physical at times. Which of course, led to the typical West Coast officiated free-throw contest to break out in the 2nd half. Nelly absolutely disappeared last night. He had a habit of doing this last year and it's disappointing. 3 points and 7 boards just won't cut it. Dent is a stud. Amzil is emerging as the 2nd scoring option (not sure if I think that is a good thing), but necessary when Nelly is this bad and Washington is in foul trouble. Overall, I think ASU will surprise some people this year. Jihad is really good. Sort of like Ian Martinez with an extra half a foot on him. 1

Amzil mechanically moves around a bit weird but is effective slashing and his 3 is pretty sweet. Really solid night at the FT line. I have nothing to say about Dent….hes ridiculous.
4rowsup Posted November 29 Posted November 29 UNM should dominate USC. Musselman can't figure out how to get that team to play as a team.

He played pretty well, but not as well as in the games against the cupcakes. He hit his scoring average, but not his assists. He was also much more turnover prone than he had been to that point, which is somewhat understandable considering the defensive pressure he was drawing from the Ole Miss defense. Tried to do too much at times.
Pelado Posted November 29 Posted November 29 BYU closes out their tournament appearance with a bounce back double-digit win against NC State. Still pretty sloppy with the ball, too many turnovers, but managed to secure the W. Demin had some foul trouble in this game, so didn't play as many minutes as they probably wanted him to, but had a good game. 1

He was set to be an Aztec then you guys waved a load of cash at him.

My understanding was that he was supposed to be an excellent defensive player and somewhat limited offensively. He hasn't been getting a lot of minutes, perhaps because the coaching staff values scoring more than they value defending. He didn't get off the bench at all in today's game and only played about a minute (just before halftime) in yesterday's loss to Ole Miss. He's averaging 8.8 minutes per game so far this season. That said, I haven't been particularly impressed with his defense when he has been on the floor. That may just be that he's getting accustomed to a new defensive system, but with his experience, I expected him to be much better from day 1 than what I've seen.
Madmartigan Posted November 30 Posted November 30 USU gets the win over a physical UNT team to win the NIT invitational. USU off to a good start at 7-0. Up next: conference opener at home vs Wyo next week.
PTR Posted November 30 Posted November 30 UNM beats a bad USC team by 10 83-73. They were up 18 with like 5 minutes left and got cute clearing the bench a bit early and SC made a run. Overall, it feels like UNM has one elite guy in Dent and decent rotation of good players. Nelly was better statistically last night, but still struggling. Tru Washington had a nice bounce back game. The highlight was Braden Appelhans going Billy Hoyle on the rim and Dent's reaction. https://x.com/UNMLoboMBB/status/1862748840811540950?s=19

Like “I didn’t know you could do that!!” Washington looked solid, Nolan looked worse IMO (good D though) 1

Schedule the Lakers and make it a trifecta.
4rowsup Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Dent is a stud. It is good that UNM was able to keep him. Any ideas on what his NIL is worth?
