azgreg Posted November 20 Posted November 20 https://bsky.app/profile/erininthemorning.bsky.social/post/3lbfe65yshs24 Quote Nancy Mace has introduced a federal bathroom ban which would ban trans people from bathrooms in DCA and Dulles airports, national park bathrooms, museum bathrooms, and all federal building bathrooms.
mysfit Posted November 20 Posted November 20 Fine Start designing these places to be unisex so there isn't a male/female anymore See how that goes over
CV147 Posted November 20 Posted November 20 That's probably a violation of the 14th Amendment's equal protection. IMO

IMO SCOTUS will probably rule that the "trans condition" is self inflicted so the 14th doesn't apply (they weren't "born that way"). Besides it is what the people want.
sjsbuff Posted November 20 Posted November 20 I see both sides of this debate (to be clear, not always comfortably either), but from a distance at least this action by Mace (and MTG) makes her look petty/angry. One study here... https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s13178-018-0335-z "This study finds that the passage of such laws is not related to the number or frequency of criminal incidents in these spaces. Additionally, the study finds that reports of privacy and safety violations in public restrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms are exceedingly rare. This study provides evidence that fears of increased safety and privacy violations as a result of nondiscrimination laws are not empirically grounded." 1

Trans people probably need to seek refuge in areas of the country and with organizations that do not discriminate against them. We cannot spend the next umpteen years talking about such a small sliver of the population. Lot of people are going to be subject to a whole bunch of shit if they live in a redneck community/state. Libs need to understand we cannot save everyone, everywhere. The voters have spoken. People need to vote with their feet at this point. 1

We already see they want a national abortion ban. They want to force their beliefs nationally. 2

If we always protect them from themselves we will get blamed for nothing changing. Then we say, "see"....vote for us now. PS...marijuana is also technically federally illegal and plenty of states allow it. The feds have to enforce their own stupid laws. Same with immigration laws.
mysfit Posted November 20 Posted November 20 Individual rights should not depend on where you are. That's the very basis and spirit of the Declaration of Independence. At some point we must say enough! The erosion of personal rights and freedoms stops here. I believe we are at that point. No, this is not a states decision, it is a federal decision. Damnitall enough is enough.

That's not a majority and in any case I don't see it as something to be voted on. It's part of the the very fabric of the country. Only the destruction of the country would permit the change IMO.

I just don't see how it gets accomplished in the reality of today. 1

Mace is pushing this just as Delaware has elected the 1st trans member of Congress. Republican Rep. Nancy Mace said Tuesday that the bill she introduced to ban transgender women from using women's restrooms at the U.S. Capitol was "absolutely" in response to Rep.-elect Sarah McBride's entering Congress. "Yes, and absolutely. And then some," Mace, from South Carolina, told reporters at the Capitol. https://6abc.com/post/rep-nancy-mace-says-capitol-restroom-bill-targeted-1st-transgender-member-congress-sarah-mcbride/15560824/
Spaztecs Posted November 20 Posted November 20 Most small businesses have handled it by no longer having men's and women's rooms. Just one person unisex shitters. I know this doesn't apply to large public restrooms, but, I'm certain there is a way forward without having to turn trans folk into second class citizens. 2

Soupslam Posted November 20 Posted November 20 The disability act made all restrooms accommodate the disabled. The same thing could be done to make all bathrooms individual unisex bathrooms, or add unisex bathrooms. There are currently many that way now. Problem solved 2 2

What about the women that are uncomfortable with a guy using the bathroom with them and their toddler daughters. What about their individual rights? 1

Regardless what we are comfortable doing there are some people that aren’t comfortable sharing a bathroom with the opposite sex. Don’t they also have rights? 2
