FAFO.

The problem is while the House may turn over, the Senate will take a decade. The R's are culturally augured in in many places. A dude could rape his daughters and get re-elected cause it beats having a Dem.

End the fillibuster, and the Hastert rule.

Not so keen on the maga stuff but they have the majority and the next two years will be brutal if they can get out of their own way and manage their freedoms caucus. I hate to imagine the level of austerity the domestic side is going to see

The only argument for doing it, is that Schumer has indicated he is going to kill it if given the chance.

I still think its bad policy and bad karma to do it though

Regardless, Thune winning rules out any chance of ir happening

I agree, I don’t think Thune will do it.

What the article claimed Schumer as said and what he actually said were MUCH different.

But here is my problem with the filibuster.  It is basically institutionalized gridlock that is mostly designed to insulate senators from ever having to take tough votes that may cost them an election.  The filibuster is basically designed so that incumbents of BOTH parties can sit and rot in the senate for decades because they rarely have to take a stand on controversial legislation because it never gets to the floor.  Senators of both parties believed this was a GREAT idea to keep the good ol boys club together in Washington so that we have 90+ year old senators.

We see this cowardice on display currently with Trump's insane cabinet picks.  Republican senators REALLY don't want to have to be the deciding vote on some of these moronic nominations.  Many of them would LOVE to pull some parliamentary procedure to avoid accountability like allowing Trump to do a recess appointment.  These guys are addicted to these parliamentary tricks to hoodwink the electorate so they can stay in power until they die.

No...senators and voters need to have accountability for how they have voted.  If they put Donald Trump and a bunch of his cowardly senators in, they need to have the full power of government to actually pass laws.  The most effective way to be able to kick out these nincompoops from power is for the opposition to be able to say, "Look!  This incumbant was the deciding vote to confirm Gaetz and that disaster of an immigration bill!"

Should Republicans pack the court with additional conservative justices?

Why not? Go wild. Give the people what they want.

I've stated in the past that I'm in favor of the court to expand to meet the number of districts (11 right?). It would be hypocritical for me to state otherwise now.

They should pack it.  And then when Democrats get in, they should expand it in response.  If we don't like that back and forth then the constitution needs to be amended as the framers intended.

This idea of not using legal powers just to be "nice" is kind of weird.  If we think guardrails are needed then we need to amend the constitution or the laws.

We can't just have the senate making up arbitrary things like a 60 vote threshold.  It is causing so many problems.  Many countries have majority rules and if the majority makes stupid decisions they are thrown out by the voters.  The courts protect minority rights...not some stupid rule.  That is the "check" on the majority doing stupid things.  The idea we need 60 votes to pass anything is ridiculous and it is why the founders abandoned the articles of confederation, among other reasons.

I was joking, but OK.

In my opinion the filibuster should be kept and the number of justices should remain the same.

I don't believe in political one-upsmanship and feel like it's bad for the country.

If one thing has become clear to me with this election, very few people in this country give a rats ass about the Constitution, the Rule of Law, or small d democracy / constitutional republic.

A strong majority sees that system as broken and not working for them. Tell them all you want that it’s the system functioning basically as it was intended by the Founders.

They. Don’t. Give. A. Shit!

All the norms have been broken, there are very few left in Washington, DC who display any integrity, or shame. Every accusation is an admission.

Hypocrisy? L.O.L. They’ll scream “you can’t do that” and then turn around and do it themselves a month later if it helps them politically, then smirk when the “lying press” calls them out for it.

No one cares!

Yes, at this point, if your party can press an advantage, do it. The norms don’t matter anymore, only the exercise of power.

Welcome to full blown populism with very few guardrails.

Yes, ditch the filibuster. The mob wants to get shit done, even if most of them have no idea what they’re about to get.

Don't get sick unless you have excellent employer provided health insurance.

Don't get pregnant unless you want to have the child. Don't have complications.

Don't retire. SS and Medicare going away. Tariffs gonna beat up the market and 401ks. Inflation gonna be yuuuge.

Don't expect equal protection under law.

The question is less the damage that will be done and more whether we will be given the chance to vote out the people who caused it.
