Looks like Trump agrees. Maybe we can finally stop Canada from sending us all of their Hosers. Trump threw out NAFTA then negotiated USMCA. Looks like now he wants to throw out USMCA. Since he made that announcement late today we'll see how markets react tomorrow. Yeah bond prices rose on the assumption the Treasury Secretary would temper Trump’s tariffs then he made that announcement aftermarket. 😂😂

They were already saying they hoped any deportation/employment record raids only happened in big cities. Now they are remembering that other countries often respond to US tariffs by applying their own tariffs on US ag products. 2

Yep I said earlier a Trump Presidency is going to be an economic disaster for the Central Valley. Between losing key workers and caught in a trade war it is going to be a supply and a demand shock for them. Anyone with too high fixed costs is toast. but those fuckers wanted him so I have zero sympathy for them. 5
mysfit Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Tariffs Trump's way of raising taxes to paper over the giant hole his taxes cuts for the 1% are going to make in the budget Paid for by the 99%. Y'all fell for it. Again
renoskier Posted November 26 Posted November 26 all I want to know... is my avocado toast going to cost more?
SharkTanked Posted November 26 Posted November 26 https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-ups-ante-tariffs-vowing-001501760.html ... The punishing tariffs, if enacted, could wreak havoc on America’s supply chains and industries reliant on goods from the country’s closest trading partners. “The measures proposed this evening could hit a number of strategic US industrial sectors hard, add approximately $272 billion a year to tax burdens, raise goods prices, lift interest rates, and sap strength in an already-vulnerable household sector,” said Karl Schamotta, chief market strategist at Corpay Cross-Border Solutions. ... Tariffs effectively serve as a tax on goods imported to the United States. Although Trump has repeatedly said targeted foreign countries pay the tariffs, they are in fact paid by companies that purchase the imported goods – and those costs are typically passed onto American consumers. Most mainstream economists believe tariffs will be inflationary, and the Peterson Institute for International Economics has estimated Trump’s proposed tariffs would cost the typical US household over $2,600 a year. ... The problem with tariffs is that they often result in retaliatory actions by targeted countries, kicking off a trade war – and that’s exactly what happened during Trump’s first term. That blunted the tariffs’ effect on domestic manufacturing, because manufacturers’ goods became less attractive to overseas buyers. Trump has promised significantly larger tariffs during his second term. Although he continues to discuss many different numbers, he has proposed a tariff upward of 60% on all Chinese goods, as well as an across-the-board tariff of either 10% or 20% on all other imports into the US. 2

Tariffs will drive up the imported avacados, and the domestic ones will go up because there’s no one to harvest them. Law of Unintended Consequences and all that.
