masterfrog Posted November 11 Posted November 11 With Homan's appointment, we can be sure that rounding up illegal immigrants is not a hypothetical. He was pretty good at deterrence during the first Trump administration. I expect he is more than capable of taking it to the next level. 1

It seems the turnout for Republicans among Hispanics has Republicans thinking if they take care of Dreamers and family members like parents they can sew up the Hispanic vote for years. They are probably correct. Quite frankly if they do the right thing for both the people by not decimating families and the country by not decimating our work force then good for them. We can all pray that line of thinking prevails. If this is an indication of a new political order, then I will see what happens these next 4 years because there could be a lot more overlap in interests. Abortion fight is now a states issue. The comprehensive border bill would have passed no matter who won.

This is not the first time Donakd Trump vowed to round up immigrants to do mass deportations. He failed and failed at it his first time because he is a bad president who cannot craft and implement policies linger than a tweet. Obama deported way more then Trump. Here is an article from 2019. Let me guess the reason for his prior failure despite controlling all levers of power. "It is the Democrats fault!" The Trump administration’s immigration jails are packed, but deportations are lower than in Obama era The problem Trump and his cronies had with implementing policies is they have no agenda or plans beyond slogans and bumper stickers. So what happened last time is Trump filled up jails and drove up detention costs but he could not legally deport a lot of people. So the same thing will happen this time. People will simply claim asylum and won't be deported and will get free room and board on thetaxpayer dime without working. But you guys have no plans to change the laws and also refuse to eliminate the filibuster. So you will have another freckles presidency where the only thing that gets done is a giant tax cut for billionaires through reconciliation unless you just overthrow the constitution. You already tried the scowl and bluster approach and governing by fiat. That resulted in Obama beating Trump on his signature issue..deportations.

Immediately California and New Mexico should offer free flights to Texas and Florida for any undocumented worker. This will put pressure on them to actually pass legislation. We should be putting together lists of employers in non-sanctuary states like farms, meat packing plants, hotels, and construction companies that routinely hire "illegals" and ask for ICE and their local police to raid and deport them. We should make it clear to immigrants that you should avoid working for these companies in red states if you want to avoid getting deported. We should offer to send the NY national guard to plug the holes in the Texas border once their governor acts like it is "fixed" now that Trump is in charge. There is no excuse any longer. Trump has to fix the border and get rid of all the immigrants! He will either fix the problem or they will fail miserably because they cannot even pass a budget most of the time. Make Trump OWN the border and immigration. If it is "fixed" then the issue goes away in the future. More likely they will royally screw it up and by all grace of god they will have destroyed the filibuster to make their changes. Then we can say with crocodile tears, "Well you shouldn't have wrecked the filibuster...elections have consequences."

InnZoneU Posted November 11 Posted November 11 Every morning 4am the shuttle comes by to pickup our neighbor to go and work 12 hours picking strawberry's in Oxnard for $10/hr. Under the table of course. Gets dropped off around 5p. Not one poster here would be doing that kind of gig. 1 1

I suggest you guys stop writing memes and "owning libs" and start writing some actual laws that are bigger than a bumper sticker. You are going to be held accountable for getting this border under control as you promised you would do! Unfortunately for you, I don't think you are going to be able to meme your way out of this one. Time to govern!!! I am looking forward to being in the opposition where I can just sit back and throw slings and arrows while you guys flail with your non-existent "concepts of a plan." 1 1 1

Have you ever heard of the technique in Judo or Jiujitsu where you use the opponent's momentum against them? Instead of pushing against their move you pull them towards their own move so they completely lose control? I say we deport them all. Let's give them what they want! Write the law, conjobs!

What I am seeing is, Costa Rica has high rate of illegal immigrants, but many of them are seeking protection while trying to get to the U.S. I guess it's how you ask the question. Costa Rica also deports illegal immigrants and has recently passed tougher laws regarding its borders.

Nearly every immigrant from Venezuela, Haiti, Africa, Asia, and many others come through this corridor after trekking through the Darien Gap. Many stay here because it is a pretty nice country that is fairly kind to migrants. Nicaragua is also the second poorest country in the hemisphere on our northern border which is a about two hours from my house. It isn't only the "victimized" USA who has immigration issues. Fix your immigration laws so the rest of the hemisphere doesn't have to deal with your collateral damage! 1

Costa Rica also deports illegal immigrants and only recently passed tougher laws regarding how it handles its border. The United States is dealing with many South American and Central American countries and Mexico that can't handle the mass amount of migration that rolls through and ends up trying to cross the U.S. borders illegally. Many of these countries have allowed their criminals to flow out as well and ultimately end up in the U.S. The Biden Administration, including Kamala Harris, encouraged immigrants to come to the U.S. on an open door asylum protection policy and it backfired terribly. Record number of illegal immigrant crossings and encounters was the result. They ran a campaign on it, and ignored the problems that it caused until it was too late. And how many executive orders did Biden use to change some of Trump's border policies just out of spite?

happycamper Posted November 11 Posted November 11 Also, here is the stats on immigrants just from Nicaragua in Costa Rica. I made it a separate post because the idea that the US isn't constantly deporting illegal immigrants deserves its own post (and maybe its own topic lol). https://www.migrationpolicy.org/article/costa-rica-nicaragua-migrants-subtle-barriers#:~:text=As of 2020%2C 368%2C000 Nicaraguans,as large as 200%2C000 people). CR's legal immigrant population, just from Nicaragua, is ~7% of its population. The illegal percentage is ~4% of its population. The total number of immigrants is ~15% Costa Rica's population. By contrast in the US it's about 43 million, for ~13.7% of our total population, with an estimated illegal immigrant population of 11.8 million, about 3.5% our total population.
