It encourages people in many states just not to vote. How many voters just stay home because the feel their vote doesn't even matter and can we even blame them? The "winner take all" system that the states have devised for their electoral votes is very bad. Everyone should be doing it like Nebraska. The selection of senators is another broken process. The senate perhaps could just be done away with entirely...I am not sure its actual purpose any longer. They were supposed to represent the state legislatures but now they are just a "house" that is elected in a statewide district that has longer terms. Look, I have no problem with Wyoming governing itself and I also think we need to return to federalism and more being done at the state level. But...the bottom line is that the majority of the population should get to run its will in the country. The courts are the ones who should be protecting minority rights...not the senate. Does that mean urban interests would win all the time. Not necessarily. If the goal is to win the most house districts, there are plenty of rural ones out there too and they are also allocated based on population. Equal protection for states lies in congress. Combining that with the EC creates inequality. At the end of the day, do you know anyone who wants their vote to count less than another vote, based solely off your zip code/state? Nobody does. Every vote should count the same.
