So no self-reflection from the left on their failure of a candidate? Just the ole trusty "they're racist"? How would you then explain the growth in minority support for Trump? It's the economy, stupid. This is why the Democrats lost. They were too focused on identity and not economy. I hope this loss signals the end of their party viewing everything through an academic "privilege" prism, and instead Democrats get back to being the party of the middle class. 5 2

CV147 Posted November 6 Posted November 6 This guy on MSNBC gets it https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/trump-wins-election-results-2024-progressive-democrats-rcna178206 Quote A vote for Trump was not just one for border security, but also a vote against limitless multiculturalism. It was a vote against journalists furious that their paper didn’t endorse Harris. It was a vote against encampments on college campuses. It was a vote against what they see as boys in girls sports, no matter how inflated the issue. It was a vote against anti-Trump Republicans who they see as enabling the left. In response, Democrats charged Trump with being a fascist. To little surprise, after nearly a decade of similar charges, this rhetoric failed to move persuadable voters. Warnings against authoritarianism and speaking in defense of democracy are noble, but they were not a winning message. Voters care more about how your plans will tangibly improve their lives. They also care about their way of life, as Trump understood. The late conservative firebrand Andrew Breitbart famously said politics is downstream of culture. It’s an ethos embodied by Trump’s campaign. I loathe culture war politics. But particularly in times of national division and turmoil, it’s a formula that works — and Trump has proved it yet again. With an election this close and a nation this evenly divided, it’s foolish to declare the war won. Democrats might easily overlook the lessons from this loss, choosing to lash out at Trump voters rather than seriously reflect on the party’s damaged brand. But that would be to miss where their weakness lies. Trump or no Trump, the Democratic Party is suffering from a problem that goes beyond any one candidate. Culture matters as much as policy, and they would be wise to acknowledge it now if they hope to stem the rush of people calling the Republican Party — even this one — home. 1

The Democrats going all in on identity politics, and making males the villain has caught up to them and bitten them in the ass. As if most men aren't part of families, that are doing the best they can? People, regardless of race, want economic security, etc. Democrats need to get back to their roots, if possible. Party of the middle / working class. The anti-war party. The party that supports free speech. I doubt they will do this --- most likely going to take a "resistance" position, where they double down on Trump being the next Hitler and they need to undermine him. Hopefully we don't have another impeachment. 1 1

The Barber Posted November 6 Posted November 6 Good heavens. Some people actually believe what they were told by the media, that Trump is going to start putting people in concentration camps. 5 1

Did Republicans "self reflect" when the autopsy they did after Romney said they needed to appeal to minorities? No...fuck reflection. We are going to go Trumpian and triple down on the base instead of appealing to fickle moderates who will vote for conjobs anyway. We need to expand our base and bring voters who seldom vote into our base...I guess that is the reflection. 1 2 1
