yes, we do treat types of income differently...IMO, this is a mistake

all income should be treated the same

Are you arguing for a flat tax?

Probably the most regressive tax

not necessarily

I'd argue for a more streamlined efficient system

a system which didn't waste huge amounts of resources, time and $$$, spent on tax avoidance

sorry, probably wouldn't be good for your profession

You have it backwards.

A lot of time and resources is used by the treasury department to make sure people pay what they are supposed to pay. The Treasury Department certainly doesn't spend time and money to help people avoid taxes.

The regulations have to very precise, and complex to accomplish that. That is one of the reasons people need a CPA to be tax compliant.

Ah, yes. Having an anti-vaxer as the head of healthcare in the country. Brilliant.

Guess people need to get ready for Smallpox outbreaks, and other such things to happen under orange turd's watch. Bad enough when Trump suggested people inject themselves with bleach, stick ultraviolet lightbulbs up their asses, and looked directly at a solar eclipse without any eye protection. Now we gotta deal with this nutjob.

Yeah I think he's a little more nuanced than that. He's been moderating his stance, he wants to see the data. He claims he wants parents to be able to make informed choices.

I am 100⁰% FOR vaccines

I'm also FOR removing chemicals from our foods (check) cutting out ultra processed foods (check) and reining in big pharma (check)

Considering some of the orange shitgibbons other choices, this one might not be so bad.

I was one of the working class for forty years, but I never begrudged someone who was smarter and was willing to work harder to reach the top rung. Kudos to them.

There are always going to be those that are motivated and ambitious and those willing to do as little as possible to get by, with the rest of us in between. Most of us understand that. And then there’s the jealous like you that cry about it and will always be the victim.

While I agree with your post, you missed my point.

Well done.

True, not poor by any means but far from wealthy. I was one of those in between that could have made a lot more money if I started my own business. Which would have involved a lot more hours and a lot more risk.

Which is the point I was trying to make. Many wealthy people got there by being smarter and working  harder and taking more risks. Why begrudge those that do?

Granted there are those born with a silver spoon that inherited wealth but I sure wasn’t one of those.

I don't begrudge them their rewards. I just don't believe our existing for their benefit shouldn't be one of those rewards

They want a new guilded age where Billionaires like Trump and Musk own everything and pay no tax while the working class struggles....and then they can blame the Mexicans for it.

They've already got it.

You sound like an advocate for communism where all are treated equal, poorly I might add. Even under communism the tzar and his henchmen live high off the hog.

He'll get back to you. He's currently out on a street corner yelling at random people to hide because Trump is coming after them.

Seems the Liberal Tears just ain't what they used to be. Pussy hats replaced with white flags...

The Resistance Is Not Coming to Save You. It’s Tuning Out.

The first Trump administration sparked waves of public activism and aggressive media coverage. This time, not so much

...

Was it a temporary blip? No doubt. Presidents always drive news, and Drudge always finds it. But the site knows the audience well, meaning its post-election programming choices are also a good indication of where the emotional energy of anti-Trump America is headed: Instead of tuning in, the audiences that fueled the post-2016 resistance are checking out. A slew of other early media data points suggest the same thing.

For a country wondering whether the return of Trump will drive an immediate return of the public fury and journalistic energy triggered by his first win, it makes for an early hint that the answer will be: Nope.

On TV, after beating CNN on election night for the first time ever, MSNBC saw its audience plummet: In the six days after the election, Democrats’ favorite network tumbled from its 2024 prime time average by 36 percent. CNN was off by 19 percent. During the same period, Fox exceeded its typical 2024 number by 56 percent.

...

Where Trump’s first victory triggered blue America’s fight instinct, the aftermath of this year’s win is looking a lot more like flight.

It’s back to the drawing board for Democrats to understand why they lost and make corrections. They’ve got to start appealing to Main Street Americans, the ones they now consider trash.

Yes. This is an incredibly hard spoonful of medicine for them to take. They are so invested in the issues that only appeal to eggheaded coastal cat lady types and it is driving their voters into the Republican camp.

The American electorate actually prefers Democrats when they are pragmatic , and appeal to bread and butter kitchen table issues. Nobody gives a shit about woke nonsense and climate justice.

More Bill Clinton in 1992, less squad in 2021. It’s easy. Go do it Democrats !

I think they miscalculated that things like reproductive freedom and anti-authoritarian would hold more sway. Or that people were actually paying attention.

Pro-women's care and pro-insitutions is not enough to make up for open borders and scary Trans people apparently.

They need to figure out how to hoodwink the people who don't pay attention and blame GOP for any economic ills. That appears to be the key. I mean the economy is the best it has been in a long time. Dems just lost the trust of the working class. Need to figure out how to get that back. Maybe the only way will be just to let Trump fuck them over as he will?

But hey, the Dems are elite by believing in Elnightment foundational philosophy such as science and the separation of church and state.

If we don't want those things anymore, we are going against foundational USA philosophy so I don't know how that gets answered?

If the Democrats think the path to electoral success is continuing to beat the drum of “Orange man bad” they will get their asses handed to them again.

The Democrats are actually historically better at fundamentally relating to the bread and butter kitchen table issues that really mean something to the electorate, but they are still n danger of losing that advantage. People in  Erie PA and Sheboygan Wi don’t give two fucks about the woke  issues that the Democrats thought were important, but they leaned into anyways.

The Democrats might have one more chance to take advantage of that , or they could give that built in advantage  up to Republicans.

More Bill Clinton 1996 , less AOC 2020

I think things are more existential than the kitchen table. We will see.
