SDSU was trying to give tickets away to get people in the stands this season. Either way, the majority of SDSU's fan base are pathetic.

Again, 1 losing season in 14 years and Aztecs fans won't support the team during a complete rebuild.

Let's also not forget less than 10K showing for a conference championship game. The announced crowd was different, of course. I watched that game and was embarrassed when a couple of people asked where the fans were? It was lucky if there were 5K in the stands. We're the Aztecs not winning?

Weak sauce.

You haven't been in CA for a while, have you? I mean, if all but Fresno weren't also dealing with similar dynamics, I would be more scared. It's not good either way, but this isn't just an SDSU fan issue. This is clearly a California culture problem.

Is your average attendance in Viejas close to that of Snapdragon?

I would think so, 12k v 15k is my guess. But the trick is there are lot more than 15K paying for tickets and IMO this may be causing a type of laziness with our admin when it comes to taking the issue seriously. Kinda weird when cash flow is good but fan attendance is not.

Why would we drop Air Force? They're the best and most prestigious program left in the conference.

Wrong post. And It wasn't a diss in my OP towards AF as I stated. Just thought they would fit in nicely with the other academies in the AAC and make a merger instead of a split easier. I'm also not saying AF is dead weight, but during the current realignment, the MWC needs to shed itself from some of it. I think trying to protect a few programs during all this is why the split happened. While football pays the majority of the bills, basketball also has to be in the mix when considering membership.

For the record, and as an Aztec, I don't like any of this.

No, but I attended SDSU decades ago and the fan base sucked back then too. This is not a recent issue regarding Aztecs fans. I know some Aztecs fans get butthurt when I criticize the bandwagon fans in San Diego or the people making the athletic decisions at SDSU. However, it's well deserved at times.

I live 1,000 miles away from SD, yet I try to get to some road football and basketball games, including the recent Aztec football game against the Cowboys in Laramie 6 hours away. Both teams had losing records, but War Memorial Stadium was packed, btw. Not to mention the numerous Aztec football games I've attended at the U of U with a packed house. Weather permitting, I'm going to try and make the November 23rd game against Utah St in Logan. I've been to basketball games there, as well as the Huntsman Center in SLC and the Marriott Center in Provo. When I am visiting SD, I try to make some games based on the schedule. I also donate to SDSU when possible. Yet the Aztecs can't get people to games with a metro area population of over 3.3 million. The excuses are ridiculous as they were back in the day.

You actually have a so called Aztec fan on this board rooting for the Aztecs to lose. So spare me with the not a real fan tag.

The simple fact is, SDSU'S fan base overall, sucks.

Fb is not dying in CA.  Just go to high school games this weekend.   Bleachers are full and well supported.   Given how many high schools exist in California, attendance at high school games in California each week is likely in top 3 in total for all states.

HS football games are affordable. CFB is not.

Attendance for CFB games outside of Fresno is pathetic.

NDSU needs a new stadium.  The Fargo Dome sucks

Agreed...I pointed that out to some NDSU fans clamoring for a move up to FBS and they said that one side of the Fargo Dome has the support to add an extra 6-8k seats.

Voters declined a sales tax increase for an expansion & renovation of the Fargo Dome in addition to constructing a convention center.  A renovation of that arena is on the ballot for Tuesday's elections separate from the convention center.

It seems like 22-25K is the new norm for a good sized mid-major stadium these days so getting to 22K wouldn't be too difficult for NDSU but will they get it done?

My point is football is actually quite strong in California with lots of kids playing.   People talk like nobody cares about football in California.  My experience is that it is extremely popular.

Attendance issues for college are likely more related to quality than demand.   People don't support garbage.

Saw that UCLA, Stanford, Cal, and San Jose St also have terrible attendance and fan support

Is the problem the traffic?   That it is too much of a hassle for folks in large metro areas in California to attend a game, what with traffic on the freeway and parking?

No, it's not traffic. And as much as I've wondered if it's the weed smoking, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado don't have these issues. I think it's the high percentage of transients as you get closer and closer to the water. This helps explain why Fresno seems to have different dynamics. No numbers on this but I am guessing the % of local born citizens in coastal California may be the actual issue. Lots of folks here with no longterm ties to the region. Also, lets be honest here. Hardcore liberals have been hating on football for awhile but they love to front run once a team is winning.

All of that actually makes some sense.

Weed.  Transients -- no history with the community.   I guess you could also add folks spending time and money on NFL / MLB entertainment options in there (except for NFL with San Diego State).

What part of tying to blame culture on the pathetic Aztecs fan base did I not understand?

I think AztecMesa suits you a lot better, real fan.

You’re an obvious liar because you are claiming attendance has always been bad. Meanwhile locals know we used to outdraw the chargers. Your hatred for the Aztec fanbase is well noted.

The surge in Padres fandom since the Charges left town has been interesting. Meanwhile there was no noticeable surge for the Atztecs. This tells me that expensive cities that mostly draw college grads due to cost of living are probably not great for the local school, especially if that school is not in a major conference.

Denver and SD have similar metro populations except one has a NFL team and a P4 team in Boulder.  One would think that SDSU support would improve after the Chargers left.
