spc_ops Posted October 22 Posted October 22 This is for those interested in the development of the new PAC12. Let's say that no AAC are able to come over for what ever reason. (I'm banking that some will) Realistically, who do we go after for #8? Or do you see another package deal instead of adding just one school?
OrediggerPoke Posted October 22 Posted October 22 We all know that the PAC values academics and affiliation with top notch academic institutions above all. Likely that Grand Canyon and Liberty get the call in that scenario. 3 1 9 2

Spaztecs Posted October 22 Posted October 22 Texas State will probably be the underwhelming add to make the Pac qualify as a Conference. However, they will most likely add Memphis and others in 2027 when the AAC exit fees come down 1 1
BSUTOP25 Posted October 22 Posted October 22 Bama loses again this year and they’ll be on our short list 1 8

Chalsean Posted October 23 Posted October 23 I've seen some chatter about UNT, which I'd be surprised if they got the shoulder tap over TxSt.. but I do believe plan A will be successful in the end. 1

I’d take UTSA or Texas State, but would avoid UNT or any of the other riff raff in that state. UNT is one of those schools where everyone who goes there wishes they could have went somewhere else. 1
thedude15 Posted October 23 Posted October 23 Texas State and wait is the disaster scenario. Still an upgrade in money/conference quality for the leaving 5 MW schools. Then the "bigger" disaster would be a couple of Pac schools getting a Big-12 invite and then the MW actually staying strong this time and none of the MW-8 jumping to the Pac-6. That would likely result in a merger and then the MW schools that stayed this round look very smart. To me the more likely outcome is no Pac gets gets a Big-12 bid and down the line the Pac-12 picks off another school or two from the MW.

Yes an upgrade in money due to less split, no in conference quality, you are kidding yourself if you think that would be a better quality conference than a full merger (still could have gotten Gonzaga ). 4 1
SalinasSpartan Posted October 23 Posted October 23 I don’t really care who the Pac adds, I just hope they do it soon so the MWC can respond (or not) and we can put the expansion issue to bed for the next 5-6 years. 2

We're not really targeting the same schools, so I don't see how/why MWC needs to respond to anything PAC does. 2 1

Better quality based on what metric? Strength in numbers?

Number of quality football programs at any given time. Every program outside of Boise cycles down years. USU and SDSU are down this year and CSU has been hot garbage for the last decade. You can’t tell me adding Texas ST is better quality than if there was a full merger. I get the extra media money, but from a pure quality standpoint, it’s not better unless you poach AAC 1

They think they are at the same value as boise simply because of their TV market....
