Supersix Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Jeanty will likely secure the Heisman trophy. He is undoubtedly the leading candidate. We'll have to endure endless discussions from Boise about it, and it will likely dominate every other sports-related conversation for the next 20 years.😀
tailingpermit Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Another Boise thread by the guy that says there’s too many, color me shocked. 3 3

But close. Ward is doing things we see every season from top P5 QBs. Run of the mill "elite this season by this season standards" Jeanty...well...he aint doing things you see from the top RBs every season... Ward is "amazing for this year" talent. Jeanty "This happens once in a generation, maybe" talent. Not the same. 1

The problem with dismissing Cam Ward as a “top P5 QB” is that those are the kids that win Heismans. That said, the perfect storm that would need to precede a G5 player winning the Heisman is actually sort of happening. Neither the SEC or Ohio State have much of a candidate right now. Taking out the usual suspects opens up the field quite a bit. Travis Hunter is great but he’s not going to get many opportunities in consequential games, so I don’t see how he can Desmond Howard his way to the trophy. Honestly, Cal’s collapse last night probably did you dirty. Not to underestimate Cristobal’s ability to lose games he shouldn’t, but Miami doesn’t have many land mines on that schedule and if they do in fact go 13-0 I don’t see how he doesn’t win it. 2

Have to agree. Jeanty is a generational talent, but he plays at Boise not Alabama. He's a RB, not a QB. He is not seen by most of the country every week. He may deserve it, but that doesn't mean he'll win it. Boise would be wise to go all in on a marketing campaign. Pushing a legit candidate that a lot of folks haven't heard of might help him, and it would definitely help Boise's brand.
dtd Posted October 7 Posted October 7 The Travis Hunter narrative is going to be difficult to overcome.

His dual role definitely earns him extra credit, but overall he's not the dominant player in college that the aforementioned are. I've seen him get beat too many times as a DB to not consider him a project at the next level. He's ridiculous as a WR, but doesn't carry the size to make him dominant at the next level. I get that the trophy is about collegiate accomplishment, and he's certainly got that going for him, but I don't think he's the best player in the country at all.

Jeanty averages more yards per carry (against the 24th ranked schedule to date) than Wards does yards per attempt passing. This should not be a debate and wouldn't be if Jeanty played of Georgia or Ohio State. Ward is putting up the type of season you see a few times a year, every year, at the P5 level. Great. Spectacular. Not generational.
