The 395 south to north is a beautiful drive.  We go out of our way to take that instead of the 5, which is awful.

the 5 is great if ya want to go fast

A hundred percent on how SoCalers travel to the Bay Area. The scenic Central Coast route has much more to offer. Stopping for lunch in Santa Barbara, SLO or Paso Robles is much more appealing than doing the same in Bakersfield, Tulare or Coalinga.

I recently mentioned to my wife about going for lunch to Bakersfield and checking out the area. She scoffed at me. Yet, she enjoys our lunch outings to Riverside. Go figure.Great series. The Dodgers did win easily. They had to earn it. Aztec hoops are only days away at this point. Something to look forward to.

Bakersfield might have the country's most toxic air: You haven't lived until you've been dive-bombed by a crop duster.

Riverside isn't exactly Paris but at least it has some character: The Mission Inn and the nearby art deco movie theater renovated to be a music venue plus a great Mexican restaurant that I can't recall the name of.

Just about everything between Ventura and Santa Cruz is worthwhile: Even the Garlic Capitol of the World, Gilroy, smells better than the Central Valley.

Aztec hoops? WTF?

I brought up Aztec hoops as something for Aztec Padre fans to rejoice about in response to OldSD's disappointment about SD not advancing in the MLB post season.

I lived in Bakersfield for a year about 15 yrs ago when I was AGM for Bakersfield Jam.  Shared an office with Jim Harrick, but he was never really there.  Overall the town is a shithole, but if you stay west/north of town i.e. Coffee/Olive area, it's pretty much like most new master planned areas.  Downtown by the arena wasn't bad either.

NLCS Game 1 - Dodgers cruised to a 9-0 shut out over the Mets. Jack Flaherty pitched 7 innings to get the win for LA. That's 33 scoreless playoffs innings tying a MLB record.

Go Blue! 👍

You’re just like the Padres players, low class clowns running their mouths all the time and losing when it matters to big brother. 😅😅😅

I see someone forgot to take out the Dodger trash. Do you type in red typewriter ribbon, too, grandpa? Jesus man... maybe yer internet works better in whatever Country Kitchen you're slupring your chunky noodle, but I can rad regular type just fine, man.

You:

Plus, are you so old you forgot we bounced yer ass in four in the NLDS just two season ago?

If it weren't for rigging the system with your backloaded payout to Ohtani, you guys would have been mid, finishing behind us and the D-Backs and out of the postseason altogether.

NLCS Game 2 - The Mets beat the Dodgers, 7-3.  The series is now tied 1-1 with game three in New York on Wednesday.

Lol. It sucks to be a loser Padres fan.

I think that was his point.  Glad to hear you're still alive.

Won't lie - this one hurt no less than the '06 divisional playoff round as the 1-seed against the Pats. Just as then, this squad was loaded - built to be better than the Dodgers to ensure we advanced.

Still don't ge the point tho - a rivalry's a rivalry, but it was very much a microdick post, especially considering we a) already ousted LA in the NLDS two years ago and b) took the regular season series from them this year. This year's series could have gone either way. But soup's response was in typical Dodger trash form, tho one could argue I had it coming for all the shit talking I was dishing out.

Anyway, on to watching with no dog in the fight.

I did however discover what I have termed the Padres Paradox: If the only way to guarantee the Dodgers lost was to root for them, would I?

You'll be happy soon enough.  The Dodgers aren't winning anything with their pitching (recent scoreless streak means nothing).  I'll be surprised if they get past the Mets.

I was born and raised in Bakersfield, lived there for 30 years before I moved with my wife just up the road to Visalia. I'm trying to convince my parents to move where we are or to move to the central coast near Santa Maria or Oceano. Our house used to be in a "nice" area of town just off Panama Ln. and New Stine, but with the homeless population and drug use out of control the neighborhood has become very rundown and dangerous. Areas like Coffee and Olive are becoming dangerous now as well.

Wow that sucks to hear.  Our office was up by the airport off Norris.  I kind of liked Bako more than I thought I would.  It had character.

I agree on central coast area.  If they can afford relocating there.  My favorite steakhouse ever is in Nipomo (Jockos).
